Children's ED

Children's ED is a busy department who currently see about 30,000 children per year in a purpose built paediatric area within the Emergency Department, with a separate stream for children attending with urgent care complaints.

Main duties of the job

Do you want to be part of our growing team at an exciting time? We have vacancies available for motivated and enthusiastic paediatric nurses to join our team in our fantastic Children's Emergency Department. We are a busy department who currently see about 30000 children per year in a purpose built paediatric area within the Emergency Department, with a separate stream for children attending with urgent care complaints.

Our unit runs regular teaching and simulation sessions, team forums and meetings. We will support and develop you, we have a fully equipped clinical skills centre and a dedicated Practice Educator based in the ED. We also provide monthly well-being sessions available to all staff. Colleagues who rotate through the unit describe the team as one of the best ED teams they have worked with, and we are proud of this reputation.

We are proud to provide a beautiful area to see children including two resuscitation bays, a high dependency area, an outside play area, a multi-sensory treatment room and an adolescent area, all finished to a high specification, to provide high quality care to the children of Croydon.

We are seeking dynamic individuals who can flourish working within a fast paced and demanding environment. You will need sound clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in the multidisciplinary team. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of an amazing team!

  • RN level 1 childrens nurse
  • Commitment to personal development
  • Mentorship or equivalent


Desirable

  • A&E course or equivalent


Skills and abilities

Essential

  • IV additives
  • Team player
  • ED skills, triage, wound closure, plastering


Desirable

  • EPLS / APLS
  • Phlebotomy and Cannulation


Knowledge and Understanding

Essential

  • In depth knowledge of Child Protection procedures
  • In depth knowledge of current issues and management trends in paediatric ED
  • demonstrates a good understanding of clinical governance


Desirable

  • demonstrates understanding of Clinical Supervision
  • Evidence of self directed learning.


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in an emergency care/HDU/PICU setting
