Job summary
Are you keen to work in a supportive acute ward dietetic team and build your experience in the dietetic management of patients on our ITU, gastroenterology and surgical wards?
Due to developments within the Nutrition & Dietetic service we have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Dietitian to join our team.
The successful candidate will support the acute team lead to deliver and develop the dietetic service to all in-patients wards at Harrogate District Hospital. This post is primarily in-patient based with some outpatient clinic work to review patients post hospital discharge.
We work closely with the gastroenterologists, surgeons, anaesthetists and Specialist Nurses.
This post is an excellent opportunity to develop your experience and knowledge base in enteral and parenteral feeding, gastroenterology and the dietetic management of surgical patients. The post holder will also contribute to other departmental projects, audits and supervision.
The wider dietetic department offers excellent support for professional development and participates in the training of student dietitians on A, B and C placements.

Main duties of the job
- To work as an expert in the dietetic management of critically ill and high dependency patients. Share and implement national guidance with the ITU team and the Nutrition & Dietetic Servic
- To work as an expert in the dietetic management of surgical and gastroenterological conditions (including cancer, IBD, liver disease, IBS, Coeliac Disease) and inform/share local and national developments across the servic
- To support the acute team lead dietitian in coordinating daily workloads and cover for periods of leave or sickness to ensure that departmental standards for the timely assessment and review of patients are met
- To provide clinical supervision and support to other dietitians in the team who are supporting the delivery of the nutrition and dietetic service to individuals with surgical or gastroenterological condition
- To promote and be responsible for appropriate and best practice/evidence based advice on nutrition and dietetic issues in relation to the dietary management of surgical and gastroenterological conditions and provide this to patients, clients, carers, health professionals and the public
- To participate in multidisciplinary meetings, including consultant-led ward rounds, ITU ward rounds and parenteral nutrition team meeting
- To contribute to service developments/initiatives as part of the strategic vision for the Harrogate Nutrition & Dietetic Service

- Member of the BDA
- Post-registration work experience in a varied nutrition & dietetic environment, including experience in critical care, gastroenterology and surgery
- Experience of working with patients with Liver disease
