Three opportunities have arisen for experienced CAMHS Liaison and Crisis Support Clinical Nurse Specialist (Band 7) with generic CAMHS experience to work within our pathway.

These are three full-time permanent posts and are part of a well-established team where professional development and innovative work is actively encouraged. The post holder will, on a rota basis, provide a 7 day crisis service for young people experiencing mental health problems in the Milton Keynes area. The post will be based within MKUH and the post holder will be expected to maintain the close links with the Hospital.

Milton Keynes is a culturally diverse new town and we are keen to provide culturally appropriate services to families. We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist who has CAMHS experience and is able to integrate quickly into a busy CAMHS team.

Main duties of the job

The post will include professional and practice development and ensuring high quality client centred care is delivered. The post holder will lead by example to maintain high standards of care and practice and to empower colleagues to take on a greater range of clinical tasks to improve client care in the specialist CAMHS service. The post holder will be a highly visible presence in clinical practice and be accessible to clients and their families. They will provide advice and expertise in the management of complex cases.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To effectively triage and accept referrals to the service, liaising with other professionals and providing initial advice as appropriate. Provide comprehensive mental health and risk assessments of children young people and their families/carers referred in crisis.

To manage risk by putting in place care plans, safety & coping plans and other risk interventions in a variety of settings, e.g. A& E, paediatric wards and the community.

Providing brief evidence-based crisis interventions to children, young people and families referred to the service, that aim to prevent the need for admission or facilitate safe early discharge from acute hospitals.

To engage in assertive outreach work with children/young people and their families where appropriate.

To offer and provide a liaison and consultation service to hospital staff and other key agencies working with children, young people and their families/carers including advice to professionals in creating management plans for children and young people presenting with in crisis and/or complex and severe mental health problems.

Close liaison with other agencies

To provide reports as appropriate to external agencies, ensuring that issues around confidentiality are managed

To develop and carry out other nursing roles as required

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to degree level


Desirable

  • Qualifications/ training in relevant specialist skills e.g. systemic therapies, CBT, DBT, Solution Focused therapy
  • Masters level study in a relevant area


Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of well developed clinical skills and abilities in CAMHS, including mental health assessments and therapeutic interventions
  • Skilled in emergency and crisis assessments
  • Skilled in providing brief therapeutic interventions and psychoeducation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills


Desirable

  • Specialty CAMHS experience e.g. YOT, Eating Disorders, Adolescent Inpatient ward, work in substance abuse
  • Experience of working with children and young people with learning disability, autism or communication difficulties


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of risk assessment, care and safety planning.
  • Experience of working with children and young people where there are safeguarding concerns and managing complex safeguarding cases
