Job summary

The Diabetes Team at SaTH are delighted to invite applications from an exceptional, dynamic, passionate, experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurse (DSN) to lead our team of DSNs in our innovative multi-disciplinary diabetes team that is based at both Shrewsbury and Telford hospital sites. As the Nursing Lead Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be accountable for all DSN's and the associated performance, finance, service development, standards and quality of care delivered within your designated speciality. As the lead nurse you will need engagement with all Corporate and Divisional objectives. You will have analytical skills and have experience with preparing reports and action plans. You will also have experience managing a team.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include clinical/direct patient care practice responsibilities as well as a leadership role managing a team of DSN's.

Main duties of the job

You will support the Deputy Divisional Director of Nursing and work closely with Medical Devices Service Lead CNS, Podiatry Clinical Lead, Clinical Lead, Matron and Centre and Operational Manager to deliver Safe and Effective Services by translating the organisations vision and values into meaningful actions for teams to respond to our patient's needs. This will be supported by implementation of the Nursing and Midwifery and Educational and Research Strategies and taking actions to prevent hospital acquired harms.

Providing professional and clinical leadership within Diabetes and Endocrine and lead on specific Professional and Service projects as required.

As a Registered Nurse you will be working at an advanced level undertaking tasks that have been previously undertaken by medical and/or technical staff. As a Practitioner you will practice autonomously and also within a defined team / multi-disciplinary team to provide advice and support to patients, carers, and healthcare professionals on Diabetes and Endocrine, across both secondary and primary care and in accordance with local guidelines and policies.

You will formulate clinical decisions and treatment plans within local guidelines /policy to manage acute and chronic illness and will respond to actual and potential health problems appropriately. You will undertake advanced practice procedures and tasks which will provide holistic nursing care and therapeutic nursing interventions.

About us

This is a new 12 month fixed term post. We would welcome applications for secondment but please ensure you have agreement from your existing line manager before applying.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MSc in Health, Quality or leadership related or working towards within 2 academic years of appointment
  • Non-medical prescribing or working towards within 2 academic years of appointment
  • Extensive experience at senior level/ leadership role or ability to demonstrate
  • NMC Registered
  • RN Diploma or Degree


Knowledge

Essential

  • Good knowledge of national and local targets, NICE Guidelines and policies in relation to diabetes and endocrine care
  • Knowledge of advanced clinical, psychological, and social needs of patients attending urgent /acute care

  • Development of analytical and judgmental skills
  • Research and or audit skills
