Job summary

The successful applicant will be working as an Application Architect as part of the Application Design team, reporting into the Head of Enterprise Architecture. The role is varied with a focus on translating business visions and requirements into solution outlines and detailed designs with a strong emphasis on the adoption and implementation of open architecture principles and standards (e.g. HL7 FHIR). The applicant will also have a close relationship with the Software Development team providing technical advice and guidance on the implementation of their designs. Key projects include the procurement and implementation of an Electronic Prescribing and Administrations (EPMA) system, where the applicant will be expected to provide technical expertise and assurance to ensure that the new system integrates with both the local Health Board digital platform and the wider NHS Wales ecosystem.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide technical expertise on functionality, data, security, interoperability, performance, capacity, scalability, the UI and UX
  • Model the existing solution architecture and develop new models for emerging components of the architecture.
  • Model integration requirements and works closely with the Integration Specialist to architect and design messaging solutions
  • Work with the ABUHB service and clinical team to understand clinical/service strategy and information requirements for the Health Board's digital platform
  • Support the selection and management of 3rd party suppliers' applications
  • Strategic planning of software delivery and working closely with the Software Development Manager to ensure timely delivery of the application development roadmap.
  • Contribute towards the overall Application Strategy.
  • Assist project managers and the Software Development manager to develop project and resource plans for development and implementation
  • Assist in leading the technical assurance processes ensuring that the solution architecture is aligned with the ABUHB Architecture Principles
  • Manage technological risks within the ABUHB application architecture.
  • Train Informatics, 3rd party and other staff in methodologies, techniques tools and the application(s) solution architecture and provide coaching support for the use of new methodologies and architectures
  • Provide professional and technical leadership to the Software Development Team
