An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Radiology Staff Nurse to develop their skills and knowledge by joining the expanding nursing team in the Interventional Radiology Department.

This dynamic department provides a wide range of ultrasound, x-ray and CT guided diagnostic and interventional treatments . The unique and varied nature of the specialty means that there is always something new and interesting to learn. Due to the diversity of patients who attend for treatment, the radiology nurse has the ability to care for a wide range of patients of all ages, from emergencies, medical, surgical, vascular, oncology, renal and urological specialties. The radiology nurses are vital team members, fulfilling the scrub, circulating and recovery nurse roles, they have the ability to transfer these skills to the theatre environment when required, as well as organising the patients' pre and post-procedure care. This role also includes working in CT to cover for interventional procedures.

The Radiology Department comprises a small team of nurses who work alongside the larger multi-disciplinary team including Radiographers, Radiologists, Radiology Assistants, Health Care Support Workers and Administration Staff.

Main duties of the job

This position would allow for role expansion in areas such as cannulation, venepuncture, safe sedation of patients, and undertaking delegated consent. The unit is committed to the training and development of staff so further development in this role would be encouraged.

There is an opportunity to train to become proficient at undertaking skills such as scrubbing , receiving and recovering patients .

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with a current NMC registration
  • Evidence of continuing professional development


Desirable

  • Evidence of postgraduate qualification.
  • Evidence of commitment to ongoing learning.
  • ENB 998 (Teaching and Assessment) qualification or relevant equivalent experience


Previous Experience

Desirable

  • Evidence of extended role practice theatre / scrub / aseptic experience


Specific Requirements

Essential

  • Has the ability to travel between sites (Pilgrim and Lincoln) should the need occur.
  • Has the ability to participate with on call services
  • Flexible approach to working hours
  • Highly motivated and self-directed

  • Highly developed professional and clinical knowledge.
