Job summary

This is a fixed term Senior Clinical Fellow appointment for a period of 12 months, available to start as soon as possible. The post is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, is full time and the post holder will be expected to participate on the 1:8 renal on call rota. This is an excellent opportunity within the Nephrology department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.This post would suit a dynamic doctor planning a career in Nephrology who wishes to gain further experience of renal medicine at registrar level. The successful applicant will be expected to assist in the running of nephrology services within the Lister Hospital, including in-patient and out-patient management of renal patients. They will work at registrar level and will participate in the renal registrar on call rota and potentially some general medicine on call.Experience in renal medicine at core level is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work under the supervision of the consultant nephrologists to provide day-to-day care of patients on the nephrology ward, in the Hemodialysis Unit and CAPD Unit, and attending renal clinics in the Lister Hospital. There will also be duties at the satellite units as rostered. The appointee will be encouraged to contribute to audit and research activities in the unit.The post holder will be encouraged to participate in audits, presentations and teachings. Although, this post is not recognised for training the appointee will be encouraged in their training and development within the role.Applicants must hold full GMC registration and licence to practice. Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to assist in the running of renal services within the Lister Hospital and will work at registrar level. The post holder will be involved in in-patient and out-patient management of renal patients with a variety of conditions.Provide renal input to co-ordinate and deliver the in-patient and out-patient renal service within the Trust.This job description is neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the duties and responsibilities may vary from time to time in the lights of changing circumstances and in consultation with the job holder.

Eligibility

Essential

  • Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council


Qualifications

Desirable

  • College Membership (MRCP) or qualification of an equivalent level
  • Postgraduate academic degree
  • College Fellowship


Clinical Expertise in Speciality/Subspeciality

Essential

  • Experience at core level in Nephrology


Desirable

  • Experience in Dialysis Care and Dialysis Access procedures.
  • Experience at registrar level in Nephrology
  • NHS experience


Fitness to Practice

Essential

  • Up to date and fit to practice safely and aware of own training needs
  • Evidences engagement with appraisal and revalidation


Clinical Governance

Essential

  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
  • Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice


Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Experience in organising educational activities

  • Completed an audit in the field of Nephrology
