Job summary

The post holder will focus on delivery of key priorities within clinical education, leading on workforce developments for children's services focussing on recruitment, retention, ensuring that there are robust learning and development opportunities and will act as a role model, providing effective leadership, promoting quality and evidence based practice.

The role will also support a wider remit around the ongoing support and development of postgraduate education programmes, continuing professional development and careers management across Children's nursing and a broader range of non-medical disciplines; for example AHP's, Health Care Scientists and new roles within UHB.

Leading the coordination, development and implementation of quality assured training that meets the needs of paediatric/ neonatal service users, individual staff members and multi-disciplinary teams working within the UHB Children's services.

Support and implement the speciality's strategy for children and young people and play a crucial role in staff engagement and recognition.

Main duties of the job

*Working with the Director of Nursing/ Deputy Directors of Nursing, Matrons and Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses, the post holder will lead on the commissioning, and monitoring of post graduate education for the division from the Learning beyond Registration (LBR) funding.

*Work with Director of Nursing and the Head of non medical education (or designated Matron) to plan and co-ordinate an annual training needs analysis for Children's services

*Represent Children's Services at Trust wide internal and external meetings as required, feeding back as and where appropriate.

*Support the Head of non-medical Education to ensure that education is planned and delivered to reflect agreed care quality metrics, patient outcome and experience indicators,

*Work closely with other Trust leads to develop innovative programmes of education and training for registered and pre registration nurses across Children's services.

*Lead on Workforce for Children's Services, focussing on recruitment, retention and recognition.

Qualifications

Essential

  • *Holds a professional health registration (E)
  • *NMC Registered Nurse Child Branch on the NMC register (E)
  • *Evidence of ability to revalidate with the NMC/HPCP (E)
  • *Relevant degree level study (level 6/7) (E)
  • *Teaching qualification PG Cert (Ed) or equivalent (E)
  • *Evidence of recent and on- going professional development (E)


Experience

Essential

  • *Significant post registration experience working within an NHS or complex health care environment with multidisciplinary teams (E)
  • *Acute Paediatric nursing experience at a senior level (E)
  • *Nursing experience in Paediatric HDU (E)
  • *Relevant and recent clinical experience within an acute care environment, including the supervision/education of junior staff (E)
  • *Experience of leading and managing a team within a complex health care setting (E)
  • *Demonstrable experience of managing pay and non- pay resources and service development and change associated with a clinical service (E)
  • *Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence (E)
  • *Proven experience in the implementation of monitoring clinical learning environments (E)
  • *Experienced mentor / preceptor and assessor of others (E)
  • *Proven ability to analyse complex problems, develop and implement practical solutions to address them (E)
  • *Demonstration of a significant contribution to innovative practice or change management (E)
  • *Experience in interviewing and selecting staff (E)
  • *Experience of commissioning education programmes with external and internal providers (E)
  • *Experience of working with Higher Education Institutes and experience of managing education contracts (E)
  • *Ability to collaborate constructively with internal and external stakeholders and create conditions for successful partnership working (E)
