We have an exciting opportunity in our Same Day Emergency Care unit for a band 7 Supervisory role.

Are you an experienced Emergency or Acute admission unit nurse? Are you looking for an opportunity to develop yourself whilst leading a team?

Our SDEC is a 7-day service that looks after acutely unwell patients not requiring admission. The unit is open 7 days a week, has both Emergency and Acute Medicine input, the clinician team consists of nurses, ACPs ENPs and clinicians. The role of the Band 7 is to ensure our patients received safe and high quality care.

We are looking for a kind, compassionate and caring nurse to support our patients, their families and our dedicated team of staff. You will have high standards and be able to demonstrate excellent patient care, clinical and leadership skills.

You will have the opportunity to continue to progress your professional development and will be supported in this role by the Senior Nurse team. Commitment to undertake ongoing in-service training and development is essential. You should be motivated, keen to learn and ready to embrace change our commitment to you is to provide the environment and support for this to happen.

Main duties of the job

The sister/charge nurse will:
  • Be supervisory to practice
  • Be responsible for professional day to day clinical leadership and operational management of the ward.
  • Ensure delivery of high quality, responsive, safe, efficient and compassionate care.
  • Support the Matron in developing the service.
  • Act as a leader and role model, adopting a flexible approach in a role which encompasses leadership, management and clinical responsibilities
  • Demonstrate pride in their work and enthusiasm for quality of care

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN. 1st Level qualification
  • Current NMC Registration
  • 1st Degree in nursing or health related topic
  • Evidence of Masters level academic study or willingness to work towards Masters (in relevant health related subject)
  • Qualification in Teaching, Assessing and Mentoring
  • Management qualification
  • Leadership course


Desirable

  • Relevant post registration qualification at level 3
  • Non-Medical Prescribing
  • Coaching course and audits


Skills and Abilities

  • Highly effective communication skills - verbally and written to staff, patients and relatives including in situations of conflict or distress
  • Able to gain credibility with and influence colleagues including influencing clinical changes where appropriate
  • Strong organisational skills - prioritising complex situations

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Thorough and up to date knowledge of nursing theory and best practice particularly within speciality area
  • Significant relevant clinical and management experience
  • Effective standard setting, monitoring and feedback
  • Understanding of the principles and application of effective budgetary management
  • Understanding of the principles and application of effective staff and HR management/appraisals
  • Understanding the theory and application of clinical governance
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Practice and requirements of it for practice and behaviour and its application to the management of staff and self
  • 2 or more years of working in an ED or AMU


Desirable

  • Undertaken nursing research
  • Experience and knowledge of advanced practice/protocols
