Job summary

We require an innovative, motivated, experienced Registered Nurse who is keen to work in a challenging specialised learning environment working as part of Oncology Research within the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will work within a small supportive team and develop close working relationships with the Research Networks assisting in the attainment of national targets in the recruitment of patients into clinical trials. Mentorship and specialist training will be provided. The post holder will co ordinate a portfolio of local, national and international trials, by interviewing, recruiting and supervising treatment for those patients who choose to participate in the trials and supporting collection of trial data within outpatient and in patient setting. They will develop links with other directorates with in the Trust and also with the other local Trusts.

Job responsibilities

The post holder must be an RN, with a significant nursing experience including Oncology, Onco-Surgery or Clinical Research. With IV & phlebotomy skills, experience of teaching junior staff both qualified and unqualified. The post holder must have excellent communication skills both written and verbal, with ability to work on own initiative working autonomously and as part of a multi - professional team. IT skills are essential.

Additional/useful: Health service or Nursing related degree/diploma.

Essential

  • Registered Nurse - Level 1
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience
  • Teaching/mentoring certificate/skills


Desirable

  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) trained


Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable, significant nursing experience
  • Experience of dealing with challenging situations
  • Some experience of audit/project management
  • Experience of working in Oncology and or Research


Skills

Essential

  • Phlebotomy
  • IT skills - word, outlook, excel and internet explorer
  • Excellent organisation skills - including time management, staff and resource management
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex information


Knowledge

Essential

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients and colleagues.
  • Understanding of clinical trial process


Desirable

  • Understanding of Oncological conditions


Other Requirements

Essential

  • Responsible for own post basic education to meet requirements of NMC Revalidation and NIHR CRN
  • Ability to work in various locations throughout the Trust, including across sites as required, and be able to carry out the physical elements of the post e.g. prolonged computer work and phlebotomy.
  • Able to manage portfolio of trials being able to prioritise workload of self and work independently without close supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Awareness of Trust policies and procedures
