Job summary
UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a local, regional, national, and international population. We employ around 22,000 colleagues. We see and treat more than 2.2 million patients every year across our four hospital sites -- Good Hope, Heartlands, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and Solihull Hospital -- and through our community services and clinics. We are a regional centre for cancer, trauma, renal dialysis, burns and plastics, as well as respiratory conditions like cystic fibrosis. We also have expertise in premature baby care, bone marrow transplants and thoracic surgery and have the largest solid organ transplantation programme in Europe. We provide a series of highly specialist cardiac, liver and neurosurgery services to patients from across the UK. The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is a Major Trauma Centre treating the most severely injured casualties from across the region. The hospital's single site critical care unit is the largest in Europe. The Trust hosts the Institute of Translational Medicine (ITM), and is the lead organisation for two Health Data Research UK Hubs as well as the NHS lead for five National Institute for Health Research Centres. UHB is proud to host the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM) providing dedicated training for defence personnel, which is also a focus for research and innovation.
Main duties of the job
The Trust has experienced some challenging times recently and with a refreshed Board focusing on driving culture change at all levels and embedding the values of the Trust, the Board has determined that the Trust requires a new devolved operating model in order to best achieve our organisational vision & purpose. This so that our population receive a consistently equitable experience and level of care, that our sites and community services can collectively realise benefits of scale, and to ensure strategic alignment with the ICS and strategic partners. As we develop our Group structure, the Group Chief Executive will be at the centre of developing this model ensuring that it delivers for our staff, patients and communities.
This is a pivotal leadership appointment at a critical time in the Trust's evolution. We are seeking an exceptional Chief Executive - there are few leadership opportunities in the sector that offer such scale of opportunity to impact positively for staff and the populations we serve. Our new Chief Executive will help shape the future of not only our Trust, but of provision in the region and deliver our vision to 'Build Healthier Lives'. The successful candidate will bring experience gained in complex healthcare organisations, with expertise in stakeholder engagement, and leadership experience of achieving transformation at scale.
If you share our values and ambition, and can add strategic capacity to our leadership team, please refer to the application instructions attached
