Clinical Fellow in General Surgery (ST3+ equivalent)
The General Surgery at St Georges University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust wishes to appoint two registrar on a Trust grade basis.
The post will initially be for four months with the possibility of an extension for a further six months.
Main duties of the job
The post will be based across all firms, working with 11 consultants and would be working equally as a part of our team of 12 registrar level surgeons with support from our team of CTs, FY2s, F1s, Clinical Fellows and Nurse Specialists across the department. Applicants will be exposed to all aspects of general surgery in a teaching hospital environment.
The post holder will participate in the General Surgery registrar rota which complies with national guidelines and attracts a band supplement. The post holder will be capable of managing general surgery emergency patients at the registrar level.
The rota comprises a 1:12 shift system of daytime and night time on calls, split into blocks of weekdays (Monday-Thursdays) and weekends (Friday-Sunday).
Post holder for the position needs to cover various responsibilities, including on-call duties, General surgery clinics, Theatre duties, and ward duties including ward round.
On Call DutiesDay and nights on call will be on a 1:12 basis, organised into blocks of 4 (Mon-Thurs) and 3 (Fri-Sun) days.

This is a clinical post where the appointee will join the general surgery firm and remain there for the duration of their contract. The post would provide an ideal professional development platform from which the appointee may develop a portfolio of experience. The post intended is not part of a training program. If the appointee has a particular interest in research or education, then this can be facilitated as part of the post.
The post holder will be required to participate in the clinical audit and clinical governance process within the framework of the General Surgery SDU. A weekly Surgical Educational meeting and Hospital Grand Round are held together with six weekly Clinical Governance meetings for all staff in the General Surgery SDU (clinical activities cease) which includes analysis of morbidity and mortality data.
The post holder will be required to participate actively in the education program of the SDU, attending clinical meetings within the specific firm and the SDU.
