Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Information Management & Technology department for a Senior IT Clinical Systems Manager to join our team. We are looking for a dynamic and experienced manager to lead and develop our Clinical Applications Support team specialising in the development and maintenance of our Clinical Systems.

The successful applicant will be ambitious, motivated, approachable and professional with proven Systems and team management skills and a track record of working closely with a range of stakeholders delivering to deadlines and standards in a challenging environment.

Interviews will be remote and expected to take place on 14th of June 2023.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the oversight of the successful management of various AWP clinical systems. This includes administration, development and performance considerations.

To undertake strategic planning in relation to system upgrades, new releases and migration to new systems both local and national.

To support the Deputy Head of IT Systems to effectively manage contracts and supplier relationships ensuring that appropriate support is offered, value for money achieved, service provided and issues are raised and resolved in a timely manner.

Job responsibilities

To plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operations related to IT system deployments, upgrades and enhancements across the Trusts clinical and operational service areas.

To have senior management responsibility for a variety of clinical systems and their interfaces with data warehousing, business systems and intranet/internet.

To ensure that appropriate system expertise and knowledge is in place for the system managers to carry out their role.

To have responsibility for the production and quality assurance of operational procedures relating to all system activities.

Person Specification

Education and Qualification

Essential

  • IT degree or proven equivalent experience
  • PG Dip in Health Informatics or other relevant specialism, professional qualification or equivalent experience


Desirable

  • PRINCE2 Project Management or knowledge of project management methodology


Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Substantial (5 years+) experience of IT systems management, development and support
  • Experience of managing a team of professional IT staff
  • Significant knowledge of legislation and good practice in relation to IT policies, processes and standards e.g. ITIL, Data Protection, ISO standards


Desirable

  • Experience of SQL, Oracle or similar relational databases
  • Experience working with NHS systems and suppliers
  • Experience working with Rio, iaptus
  • Experience in systems analysis or programming


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • Able to negotiate persuasively and command confidence and respect from suppliers and other external organisations
  • Able to motivate, and command respect from, senior and experienced professional IT staff


Desirable

  • Thorough understanding of NHS policies, standards and procedures in relation to Information Systems/technologies
