Hywel Dda University Health Board is currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic B6 Experienced Occupational Therapist who is passionate about working with people, as part of our Dementia Wellbeing Pathway.

The successful applicant will have a keen interest in older adult mental health and previous experience and knowledge of the physical and mental health challenges faced by this client population. You will also needexcellent communication skills, the ability to be flexible to the needs of the service and to be able to work proactively as part of a team. The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential for this position.

Main duties of the job

This post is an excellent opportunity for you to develop and share your skills and contribute to

Pre-diagnostic assessments within Memory Assessment Services and participate in regular multi-disciplinary formulation meetings.

Provide the gold standard Assessment of Motor & Process Skills (AMPS) as part of your Occupational Therapy involvement. Training will be provided.

Deliver innovative and evidence based person centred post diagnostic Occupational Therapy interventions such as Home Based Memory Rehabilitation and Journey through Dementia Programme.

This exciting post sits within the multi-disciplinary Dementia Wellbeing Community Team, under the Advanced Practice Occupational Therapist but you will be based geographically within Memory Assessment Service in Pembrokeshire.

To maintain our high quality and effective service provision we can offer you 1:1 clinical supervision and access to Clinical Case Supervision with your Older Adult Mental Health Occupational Therapy colleagues.

Access to Clinical Practice group meetings with Occupational Therapists across the wider Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Directorate.

Job responsibilities

This post is advertised as a Band 6, however applicants who do not currently hold all the necessary competencies to a Band 6 level are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annexe 21 rules whereby 70% of the top of Band 6 will be payable in first 12 months, then 75% from 12 months to 24 months. Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within a 12 to 24 month period. Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Knowledge of relevant current health and social care legislation applicable to role
  • Knowledge and application of Microsoft Office software
  • Understanding of the roles of other staff groups in health and social care
  • Knowledge of a range of rehabilitation interventions across all therapies
  • Understanding and application of clinical governance, including research and audit methodology
  • Understanding and application of relevant outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness


Desirable

  • Knowledge of other services that link across primary/secondary/intermediate care
  • Working knowledge of therapeutic equipment.
  • Knowledge of Health Board and priorities.
  • Accredited Practice Educator
  • Accredited Agored Assessor


Experience

Essential

  • Significant post graduate experience of working as an occupational therapist across a range of settings and variety of conditions
  • Managing a complex and varied caseload
  • Working independently with indirect or arms length supervision.
  • Delegation and Supervision of staff
  • Experience of coping independently with distressing or emotional situations in challenging work environments
  • Working as part of a team.
  • Experience of contributing to service development and implementing service changes
  • Direct involvement with carers and families
  • Self-development and application of learning
  • Use of adapted techniques for improving patient outcomes


Desirable

  • Experience of working with groups
  • Experience of working in a community setting
  • Experience of using virtual communication platforms for delivering service.
  • Experience in same clinical area as post being applied for
