Job summary
The clinically-led Musculoskeletal Services at SWBH Trust comprises physiotherapists, occupational therapists and consultant/advanced practitioners. We deliver a portfolio of patient-focused pathways within a range of Specialties including Pain Management, Rheumatology and Orthopaedics together with specialist or multidisciplinary clinics such as Hand Clinic, male/female pelvic floor dysfunction and rehabilitation programmes (at community leisure centres). Our clinicians work across the health system in hospitals, community clinics and general practices promoting best practice and delivering personalised care to meet the challenges of our complex population. Having supported our colleagues and patients through the pandemic, we continue to deliver an evolving and flexible model of care combining virtual and face-to-face access, to promote safety and patient choice.
Main duties of the job
This role is an exciting opportunity for a MSK clinician who is ready to progress towards a role specialising in MSK. You will work with a mentor to help support your learning needs and have access to supervision together with the monthly Quality Improvement Half Days, (available for all staff across the Trust). In turn, you will be expected to engage in activities to evaluate and develop an area of practice together with actively contributing to the support of peers and colleagues. The department is research-active, participating in several multi-centre trials with clinicians undertaking PhD study and other research training. We have close links with local universities and provide post-graduate placements for MACP students from the University of Birmingham.
About us
Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust (SWBT) is an integrated careorganisation with a budget of approximately 600 million and over 7,000 staff. Diversity and social care is at the core of what we do as the Trust provides Community and Acute Services to over half a million people in an urban centre that demands massive regeneration and has substantial premature mortality.
Our new acute hospital, the Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH), opens in 2024 and will provide care to our local population from first class, purpose-built premises. As a result, the base of this role may change to MMUH from 2024 (or beyond). If this is applicable to your role, you will be informed during the recruitment process and continuing your application with this understanding. The development of the new hospital will play an important role in the regeneration of the wider area and in improving the lives of local people and reducing health inequalities.
We have three newly emerging strategic objectives:
Our People - to cultivate and sustain happy, productive and engaged staff Our Patients - to be good or outstanding in everything we do Our Population - to work seamlessly with our partners to improve lives
