Are you a Physiotherapist, looking for the next step in your career? We have a great opportunity for a Band 7 within the acute mental health setting. We are offering this role as a fixed term contract for 12 months, or as a secondment opportunity.

The post holder would provide specialised physiotherapy assessment and treatment for service users with complex mental health and physical health needs, and provide expert advice, guidance and information for health and social care professionals, carers and relatives.

Main duties of the job

This role will cover the acute mental health wards for people of working age across Hertfordshire. The base will be within the therapy department at Kingfisher Court in Radlett.

The postholder will work alongside the Occupational Therapy team across the units and will have the opportunity to work with the Physiotherapy Teams already established within the Older Adults MH team and within the Learning Disability team. The post holder will offer clinical expertise to the rest of the Multi disciplinary team to ensure best practice. They will be supported by the OT team and Assistant Therapy Practitioners.

This is a great opportunity for someone to lead evidence-based audit and research projects to develop and enhance the team's clinical practice within acute mental health. This will contribute to supporting changes in practice and develop the Physiotherapy input within this area. The postholder will receive regular supervision and clinical peer support.

The successful candidate will work as an influential and integral member of a diverse multi-disciplinary team and will join the growing Physiotherapy service.

You will be a highly motivated, experienced clinician and have excellent communication and organisational skills.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • To provide highly specialised physiotherapy assessment and treatment for service users with complex mental health and physical health needs, and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non-professionals.
  • To provide this service within the adults inpatient units in HPFT (Oak, Swift, Robin and Owl Kingfisher Court, Radlett, Aston Stevenage and Albany Lodge St Albans)
  • To hold responsibility for own case load, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular one to one sessions with the OT Line Manager and with the Lead Physiotherapist , formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences and reflective practice.
  • To work alongside the established Advanced Physiotherapist working in Older Adults Mental Health inpatient
  • to form part of the Therapy Leadership team
  • To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge and skills from theoretical and practical
  • To be responsible for supervision, education and assessment of therapy assistants and to oversee the clinical supervision of more junior staff/students.
  • To undertake/lead evidence-based audit and research projects to develop and enhance personal and teams clinical practice within their area to make recommendations to clinical lead/ head of service for changes to practice by the team to implement specific changes to practice to write and/or contribute to service

Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma / degree in Phyiotherapy
  • State registration with HCPC
  • professional development


Experience

Essential

  • Experience in mental health or transferrable field
  • Experience of supervision and managing staff
  • Experience of service development


Communication

Essential

  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Teaching and presenting experience


Physical

Essential

  • Full driving license with access to car unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010 which prevents you from driving.
  • Computer literacy including basic proficiency in using Word, Excel, e-learning packages, Electronic Patient records and PowerPoint
