Job summary

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trustis looking to appoint a fixed-term Leadership Development post with clinical experience in Special Care Dentistry in conjunction with Kings College London and NHS-Midlands (WT&E). This post has been specifically created with the primary objective of encouraging the development of leadership skills and supporting your role as a future leader.

This innovative post will develop an understanding of research and NHS leadership. Project supervision and 1:1 support will be provided by an assigned mentor for the duration of the programme. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly motivated, professional in the early years of their career to work in a supportive and structured environment.

We recognise the importance of maintaining clinical skills. Applicants for the post will therefore be supported to develop their experience within 4 sessions of clinical activity in Special Care Dentistry within a Community Dental Service with sometime spent working within a secure setting. The role is based at St Andrews Hospital and St James Clinic in Northamptonshire.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be involved in a selection of the following Leadership/research activities: -
  • To introduce an Oral Health Needs Assessment for in-patient mental health secure setting in Midlands to devise appropriate care pathways to address their needs locally.
  • Evaluate the project's impact on the patients (oral health care needs, quality of life), the oral health care team and other health care professionals.
  • To identify educational resources needed for health care professionals (to be delivered by the oral health care team) by taking a holistic approach to address the patients' needs and common risk factors that has an impact on the patients.
  • Explore the requirements, opportunities, and training potential of delivering this service model for in-patient secure settings in other parts of the Midland's region

The structure of the post will be: -
  • 2 days per week working clinically between St Andrews Healthcare as well as from St James clinic in Northampton or Isebrook Hospital in Wellingborough (Wednesday and Thursday).
  • 5 days a week the Fellow will be working on the Secure Setting Oral Health Needs project under the guidance/support of Dr Heidari (Monday, Tuesday and Friday pm)
  • 5 days per week (Friday mornings) are dedicated to protected personal development time - there is a monthly study club and coaching session organised by NHSE

The timetable will have some flexibility to allow attendance at specific meetings, which may include evenings. Fellows will be invited to attend a selection of study days and networking events by NHSE Midlands (WT&E). To maximise learning the successful candidate will be expected to attend the majority of meetings, although adequate compensation will be incorporated into the timetable so that working hours would normally be 40 per week.

Fellows are expected to actively engage in the Dental Leadership Fellows Alumni, supporting and mentoring future fellows. This Fellowship is not a recognised training post and does not have a national training number. The Fellow will submit quarterly update reports and deliver an end of presentation summarising key

Essential

  • oAt least three years experience of delivering NHS Services
  • oEligible to work in the UK


Eligibility

Essential

  • oMinimum of three years post registration experience in clinical dentistry


Desirable

  • oIntercalated degree, BSc, BA, MFDS, MJDF, Masters, MBA, PhD or PGCert
  • oExperience of project and programme management techniques and tools


Fitness to practice

Essential

  • oRegistered and in good standing with the General Dental Council (GDC)
  • oUp to date evidence of Continuing Professional Development and PDP


Qualifications

Essential

  • oBatchelor of Dental Surgery degree (BDS) or nationally recognised equivalent
  • oInclusion on, or eligibility for inclusion on, National Dental Performer List
  • oEffective language skills to ILETS 7.5
  • oDemonstrable skills in both written and spoken English to enable excellent and effective communication
