An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Urology team at BHRUT, We are looking for someone with an interest in Urology, keen to learn and who works well as part of a team. This post will initial be for a 12 month fixed term but is subject to review with view to extend for a further 12 months.

BHRUT is one of the largest Associate Teaching Hospitals, providing acute care for over 700,000 people from across 2 main sites - Queens and King George Hospitals, as well as peripheral sites at Barking, Dagenham and Brentwood. We are a major Neurosciences centre, and are undergoing significant further development as a tertiary referral centre for North East London and Essex, including additional critical care capacity.

In addition, our Trust is in an excellent location, close to Central London and well situated in the South East of the UK. As well as all the advantages of being close to the city, you will discover that Essex has beautiful countryside as well as excellent schools, transport links, amenities and residential areas. The Trust has on-site nursery facilities.

About us

Our Urology services operate mainly from King George Hospital, but provide inpatient referral input at Queens Hospital.

Our teams are led by one of the nine WTE Consultants, who are supported by a team of Urology Specialist Nurses.

We currently offer outpatient services at our outreach clinics for patient ease. These include Loxford Polyclinic, Barking Hospital and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

There is one Urology ward at King George hospital, Iris Ward, which is comprised of 27 inpatient beds and a Receiving Room (URR). Our URR is for patients who are referred by their GP or our Emergency Department for assessment. The service is open 24hours a day, seven days per week.

We provide a large diagnostic service for cancer and routine patients, a one stop clinic, along with flexible cystoscopies, Trus biopsies and template biopsies.

Job responsibilities

The appointee will:
  • Have a continuing responsibility for the clinical care of patients in his/her charge and for the proper functioning of the department.
  • Deliver a high quality responsive surgical service to the patients who use it.
  • Be responsible for providing appropriate inpatient cover to patients in Queens Hospital Romford.
  • Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of a clinical department.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current surgical practice.
  • Maintain his/her professional development with all available training opportunities and ensure compliance with mandatory training

Other activities:Medical students from Barts and the London Medical School are attached to the surgical firms and there are opportunities for formal teaching recognised by the University. We also deliver a weekly teaching programme and the post-holder would be expected to help facilitate this.There is time for study for higher examination and clinical research. Study and examination leave allowances are stated in the Terms and Conditions of Service.
