Job summary
We are looking for someone to provide management support to our phlebotomy and specimen reception teams. You will ideally have a been educated to degree level or have equivalent experience. However, if you have not and are willing to develop into this role and have experience of any of the following then we would be interested to hear from you:
Progression from a Band 6 to 7 will be dependent upon successful completion of training to post graduate diploma level and sign off a competency-based framework. The expectation is that this should be achieved within 12 months.
Main duties of the job
A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced individual to join our Pathology Department to develop a new role at Kettering General NHS Foundation Trust. In this role you will provide management and leadership to the Pathology Support Service teams, which includes Phlebotomy and Pathology Reception Services.
Applications are invited from individuals who have current or previous experience within healthcare settings and possess leadership and management experience within clinical teams.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to work with a diverse team. You will be able to demonstrate strong leadership and management skills, with a passion for people and an ability to connect teams together.

To work closely with the phlebotomy and specimen reception leads to ensure that the right staff are in the right place at the right time to provide the required service and to participate in and support the quality management system, in line with the requirements of UKAS.
To ensure that Trust HR policies are monitored and adhered to includingTo work with the team to ensure the safe and effective implementation of change management processes.
To ensure that equipment is maintained to the required standards of performance and safety contacting external service providers as requiredTo ensure that stock levels are monitored and maintained.
Management of team leaders and other staff acting as the first line manager for all staff within this team.
Instruct and advise users of the service, including patients as and when required.
To monitor and report activity levels.
To maintain an up-to-date knowledge of changes and developments with the pre-analytical sphere.
To maintain the phlebotomy appointment system.

- The successful candidate will have the ability to maintain and develop high standards of quality and enjoy working as part of a team as well as being able to work independently under their own initiative, with the ability to meet targets and address required quality improvements.
- This role will give you the opportunity to will work closely with a team of supervisors, leaders and managers. Other elements of the role include a good understanding of human resources management within the NHS and day-to-day operational management and leadership activities. For a successful candidate who does not have complete knowledge of these, training will be required.
