Job summary

There is an opportunity to apply to either a 0.2 or 0.4 WTE role, depending on the individual position of the candidate. It is anticipated that the fellow will become an experienced member of SuppoRTT Faculty during the tenure of the post. This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to develop capabilities as a future clinical leader and mentor. Peer mentorship is an extremely valued part of the role and we will endeavour to secure training for you at the beginning of the role if this is required. The appointed fellow at 0.4 WTE will also work towards a postgraduate qualification (PG Cert) in Medical Education or Healthcare Leadership and Management at either Exeter or Bristol University, depending on availability at application. The knowledge and skills acquired through this post will provide leadership experience.

Job responsibilities

It is anticipated that the post-holder will spend one (0.2 WTE) or two days (0.4 WTE) on SuppoRTT Faculty Strategy and development at GHNHSFT, lead on an individual SuppoRTT project and gain a PG Cert in Healthcare Leadership and Management or Education (0.4 WTE). Secondment time will be spent at GHNHSFT PGME offices, with flexibility in the work schedule permitted with supervisors agreement.

Applicants wishing to continue their training less than full time will need the agreement of their TPD and will usually be required to work a minimum of 0.5 WTE in their clinical speciality to remain in training for the year. A trainee may also wish to consider applying for an OOPE.

The fellow will be supervised and supported by the PGME Faculty within GHNHSFT.
  • The doctor will work one (0.2 WTE) or two days a week (0.4 WTE) on their current salary terms.
  • The Postgraduate Medical Education Department secondment would not be recognised for clinical training and as a consequence if a Training Grade Doctor, extension to provisional completion of training date is likely to be required.
  • This exciting opportunity is available to F2, Core, GPVTS, Higher Speciality Trainees and Post CCT Trainees who already hold a training number within Severn. SAS/LED doctors are also invited to apply.
  • Applicants must be trainees currently working, or about to undertake a rotational year of work, within the South West Peninsula/Severn training footprint, or GHNHSFT SAS/LED doctors. At the time of commencement of the seconded post the doctor must be fully registered with the GMC.
  • The secondment opportunity is not subject to an employment contract with the Postgraduate Medical Education Department; it will be regarded as adjustment of a Trust Contract. For Training Grade Medical Staff, applicants are encouraged to read the OOPE Policy on the Peninsula & Severn websites
