Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a registered health care professional, passionate about clinical education, to join the Practice-Based Learning Team in Learning, Education and Development, at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will be supporting the Practice-Based Learning Team in delivery and support of nursing, midwifery and allied health professional student placements and a high-quality learning experience. You will be responsible for supporting newly-qualified staff to reach their full potential, delivering the Trust's preceptorship programme. This is a captivating time to be involved with preceptorship, as the National Preceptorship framework came into effect in October 2022.

You will also be leading on placement auditing, providing quality assurance to maintain and improve student placement experience. All duties will involve collaborative working with internal and external stakeholders, including Higher Education Institutions, Clinical Educators, Learning Environment Managers, Ward/Department Managers, Matrons and Human Resources.

You must be a registered health care professional, with post-registration experience in and passion for clinical education. Experience in managing educational services, delivering clinical teaching, and partnership working is essential. You must also have well-developed interpersonal skills, IT competence, excellent record-keeping abilities and a proven ability to problem-solve.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Healthcare Practitioner (NMC or HCPC or other relevant professional regulator)
  • Degree in health subject or working towards
  • Post Registration study in a relevant field and willingness to continue their own professional development
  • Recognised Teaching and Assessing qualification Level 5 or above (Certificate in Education or equivalent) or significant experience


Desirable

  • Post Graduate qualification e.g. Post Graduate Diploma or willing to work towards


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of managing projects/educational services
  • Proven ability to problem solve, analyse and manage change in a complex organisation
  • Evidence of facilitating/supporting and organising learning and teaching activities and/ or training programmes in local area
  • Provide evidence of contributing to policy and strategy
  • Evidence and ability to prioritise workload
  • Evidence of managing challenging behaviour
  • Evidence and ability to prioritise workload
  • Demonstrate use of evidence to inform best practice
  • Evidence of effective partnership working
  • Experience of supervising / coaching /managing / developing junior staff.


Desirable

  • Evidence of adopting strategic priorities into practice


Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate, influence and motivate effectively
  • Digital/IT competence using a range of programmes e.g. Microsoft Office, MS Teams and in particular spreadsheets and process mapping
  • Excellent time management skills and evidence of the ability to working to deadlines with competing demands
  • Awareness of governance/quality assurance frameworks and its impact
  • Knowledge of the Allied Health Professions, Nursing and Midwifery curricula requirements, relevant legislation and professional codes of practice.
  • Evidence of continuing development relevant to the role

  • Able to work autonomously and as part of a team with appropriate decision making skills
  • Appropriate level of physical ability to deliver practical elements of training / educational programmes and in a variety of workplace settings
