Our cancer directorate is inviting applications from ambitious experienced nurses who are interested in enhancing their experience by joining the existing Clinical Nurse Specialist in HPB (hepato-biliary) Cancer. The position is offered as Band 7 for those who have relevant experience and knowledge and meet the essential criteria and a Band 6 training post who meets partial criteria. As a Band 6 you will be set key competencies and objectives to work through as part of this role, you will be given support to progress through these. You will have excellent communication and time management skills, the ability to work under pressure and to lead and develop the service whilst supportingpatients along the cancer pathway. You will work with various members of the wider multi-disciplinary team managing patients from diagnosis and through Oncology treatment and have the ability to work as an autonomous practitioner and show evidence of advanced decision making

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder is responsible for the provision of high quality, patient focused care
  • Responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes
  • Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff

  • Significant relevant Band 7 experience in Oncology/HPB Surgery and ability to demonstrate expert nursing skills. Experience in implementing and running nurse led clinics. Experience of initiating change

Knowledge Band 7

  • Understanding of HPB patient pathways its complexities and how to support the patient through this In depth Knowledge of current HPB cancer treatment modalities Knowledge and involvement in policy and patient information writing
