This is a truly unique opportunity for a junior doctor with an interest in neurology to participate in a wide range of clinical trials at the Leonard Wolfson Experimental Neurology Centre - a dedicated neuroscience experimental medicine facility at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) in Queen Square.

Main duties of the job

You will join a team of doctors and nurses conducting cutting-edge clinical trials in neurodegenerative and neurological diseases. The post holder will be delivering day-to-day research - i.e. assessing suitability and obtaining consent for research, undertaking full medical assessments of clinical trial participants including neuro-physical clinical examinations and contributing to data collection by administering assessment scales. The post holder will be primarily based at the LWENC site and will work with the clinical trials team together with leading Principal Investigators (neurology consultants) at the NHNN. This would be a fantastic opportunity for a junior doctor to develop clinical research skills and knowledge working across a wide portfolio of ground breaking research.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential

  • Medical qualification MBBS with full valid registration at GMC
  • Valid ALS training certification


Desirable

  • GCP trained by start date


Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years post GMC registration work experience
  • Familiarity with principle of clinical research including Good Clinical Practice
  • Experience of phlebotomy, cannulation and management of central lines


Desirable

  • Experience of working with neurology patients
  • Experience in the conduct of clinical trials
  • Experience of formal/ informal teaching of patients and staff


Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to learn and implement new study related clinical skills e.g. skin biopsies
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills able to speak English to level required to fulfil job requirements
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional development
  • Demonstrates academic achievement appropriate to level of appointment
  • Computer literacy
