Psychotherapists wanted in the Brent Integrated Psychotherapy Service (BIPPS)

We are currently recruiting psychodynamic psychotherapy posts within the Brent Integrated Psychology and Psychotherapy Service. BIPPS is a Tier 2, specialist mental health service based in the Community Teams (Hubs) and available to adults over the age of 18 years residing in the borough of Brent.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.

Main duties of the job

Within a stepped care model, BIPPS offers step 3 assessments and psychological interventions for complex, refractory and chronic presentations across 3 different clinical pathways: Psychosis, Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) and Complex Mental Health problems (CMH). The psychologists and psychotherapists in BIPPS have strong and evolving links with clinical staff in the HUBs.

We see patients with the following presentations: psychosis, including Bipolar Disorder, persistent mood disorders, including long term severe depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD & Complex Trauma, 'Personality disorder'/debilitating interpersonal sensitivities.

We offer a variety of evidence based talking therapies, including: EMDR, CBT and CBT-P, DBT, MBT, Psychoanalytic & Systemic Psychotherapy.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and motivated psychodynamic psychotherapists to join our service and are hoping to recruit from the following groups:
  • Qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapists
  • Advanced Trainee Psychodynamic Psychotherapists

About us

This role is not accompanied by any financial remuneration. However, the successful candidate will benefit from:
  • Deepening their understanding of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working across statutory and non-statutory organisations
  • Gaining insight into the unique contribution of psychodynamic psychotherapy to a modern NHS context and a multi-modal therapy service.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Patients that are deemed as suitable for psychodynamic psychotherapy are offered up to 40 weekly sessions. Your clinical work will be supervised by a psychoanalytic psychotherapist (frequency to be confirmed depending on experience and whether you are qualified or in training) and there may be opportunities to observe/carry out clinical work in related modalities (e.g. MBT) as well as conducting assessment consultations, again depending on your interest and experience.

The post (s) would particularly suit clinicians who are wanting to develop their skills in applying psychodynamic principles and techniques to a clinical population presenting with refractory and complex emotional difficulties, often against the background of trauma and adverse early experience, and who are keen to work in a multimodal NHS therapy service closely linked with the CMHTs.
