Job summary
Applications are invited for a Clinical Fellow in Neonatal Intensive Care at the level of ST2-3. The post is for a period of 6 months from August 2023 but potential to extend by up to two years by mutual agreement. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to receive training and experience in tertiary level neonatal intensive care. The regional NICU at St Michael's Hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. It also acts as the base unit for the regional South West Neonatal Advice and Retrieval (SONAR) team.
This post would be suitable as a stand-alone fellowship or as out-of-programme experience. St Michael's NICU was rated in the top quartile (dark green) of neonatal placements for clinical experience, curriculum coverage, supportive environment and overall satisfaction on the 2018 GMC survey and the unit has a strong ethos of inclusion and development of our staff.
Applicants should have a minimum of 12 months' experience in paediatrics at SHO/ST1-3 level equivalent or be able to demonstrate transferable skills from an allied specialty (obstetrics, surgery, anaesthesia, critical care). Applicants must be eligible for full or limited registration with the GMC.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity for a fellowship for a suitably qualified candidate to receive training and experience in tertiary level neonatal intensive care. The post would be suited to an applicant with clinical experience in either paediatrics or who has transferable skills from associated disciplines (obstetrics, surgery, anaesthesia or other critical care environment).
The regional NICU at St Michael's Hospital provides regional tertiary neonatal intensive care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. It also acts as the base unit for the regional neonatal transport team (SONAR). The unit currently has 15 intensive care cots, 8 high dependency cots, and 8 special care cots in addition to a 12 bedded transitional care ward.
