A vacancy has arisen in the field of musculo-skeletal outpatients. This post is based at Mount Vernon Hospital, but the post holder may be required to work at either of the Trusts two hospitals - Mount Vernon or Hillingdon Hospital, as service requirements dictate.

The department is looking for a highly experienced musculoskeletal physiotherapist who will have a relevant MSc, ideally with MACP membership, or have equivalent experience or be undertaking a comparable level of development.

The post holder will be employed as a band 7 within the physiotherapy MSK outpatient department and will be expected to provide a high standard of clinical leadership and physiotherapy intervention that adheres to clinical guidelines and best practice.

The role will also involve supervising and providing clinical guidance to the elective orthopaedic ward, where a mixture of hip / knee replacements and upper / lower limb daycases are performed

The post holder will join a friendly team of therapists, including rotational Band 5 and 6 staff, other Band 7 static MSK physiotherapists extended scope practitioners, therapy assistants and admin team.

Main duties of the job

The role includes assisting in the day-to-day management of the outpatient team, proactive engagement with service development, staff and student supervision and providing teaching / in-service training.

To provide highly specialised assessment and treatment for musculoskeletal patients with complex needs, and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives, and other non-professionals.

To take a lead role in the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy services, in theGymnasium and/or Outpatients departments as required and to provide a specialisedresource for other physiotherapy staff and health care professionals.

To support and provide senior clinical guidance to the elective orthopaedic therapy service on the MVH site as required.

To undertake delegated responsibilities to support the Therapy Manager inday to day service operation, evaluation and development.

Job Summary:

To manage complex cases using and developing advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis to support assessments using a client-centred approach and based on current evidence.

To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge and skills from theoretical and practical experience.

To be responsible for supervision, education and assessment of more juniorphysiotherapy staff, and under-graduate students.

To help secure, across both THHT sites, a professional, efficient and patient-centred musculo-skeletal outpatient service

To provide day to day management of the therapy services, taking responsibility delegated from the Therapy Manager, and deputising as appropriate and necessary.To initiate and support service evaluation and development in line with Trust strategy, commissioning requirements and department needs, in conjunction with the Therapy Manager.

To assist in the managing of the orthopaedic department alongside other Band 7s.
