Job summary

Hampshire Hospital Foundation Trust breast care services are looking to recruit a lead nurse band 8a to join our multidisciplinary breast care team. Our breast unit is based over two sites Basingstoke and Winchester hospitals.

We are looking for someone who has the drive and a passion to further develop the service whilst maintaining the focus on the delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate care.

Main duties of the job

Main duties:
  • To lead on the nursing component in the development of the HHFT Breast Service.
  • To evaluate the current service, care pathways acuity of patient group and to map out a comprehensive service to meet the growing need.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of the services by leading locally and on national pilots and collaborating with academic departments to develop programmes of care for the patient group. To disseminate the outcome of evaluations and implement service improvements.
  • To work collaboratively with the Breast Care specialist teams, Cancer Care, Surgery, Cancer Units and Primary Care Trusts, crossing care boundaries and providing clinical expertise to other health care professionals.
  • To make autonomous and accountable decisions, supported by current research and in accordance with HHFT policies, protocols, and procedures

Person Specification



  • Post graduate level specialist training

  • Clinical experience of working within the speciality
  • Has worked at band 7 level
  • Post-registration experience with evidence of leadership or change management
