Main duties of the job

The primary objective of this post is to ensure that all users of digital services within the Trust are provided with appropriate technology solutions for them to effectively perform their roles.

The Senior Manager, End User Computing (EUC) will provide the technical capability to deploy suitable hardware and software solutions at the point of service delivery, with the objective of ensuring reliability, continuity and second line support wherever there is a failure in service.

The post holder will achieve this through direct leadership & management of a team of skilled and motivated staff, to successfully achieve the Trust's desired Digital Service availability and quality standards, within cost and resource constraints.

The post holder will be responsible for consulting widely across the Informatics & Digital community and more broadly with senior leaders across the Trust to set the strategy for EUC solutions, thereafter, ensuring that this strategy is implemented according to cost and risk appetites. Ownership, development, and delivery of the Trust's EUC strategy sits alongside the requirement to initiate and deliver such improvement initiatives as may be required to measure and meet changing customer requirements.

Where service failures occur, the post-holder will be required to work collaboratively to resolve live issues and where necessary co-ordinate the involvement of third-party suppliers on a 24/7 basis.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The Senior Manager for End User Computer will be responsible for ensuring:
  • Planning, designing, and guiding the Trusts end user operations strategically and managing the internal client experience as it relates to the products and services offered.
  • Providing the ultimate decision point for End User Experience design decisions across the NCA and attending the Technical Design Authority (TDA) in that capacity.
  • Developing and implementing end user policies deployed across the user community.
  • Ensuring standardisation of core processes; developing processes in support of strategic imperatives and programs.
  • Leveraging all available resources to execute on the vision of end users experience.
  • Developing strategies, plans, and policies that adhere to applicable security and data privacy practices and laws.
  • Driving the continuous improvement of IT Infrastructure management such as managing service delivery, developing technical solutions and staff development and objectives.
  • Collaborating with vendors for the procurement and implementation of new systems technologies; overseeing installation and resolving adaptation issues.
  • Collaborating with Application Support teams to improve upon and deliver the best EUC experience.
  • Leveraging strong technical knowledge of servers and network to collaborate with server and network support teams to design, implement, operate, and continuously improve EUC solutions.
  • Creating self-help documents and articles for the user community.
  • Being an active member of the Technical Operations leadership team and working closely within this group to drive excellent customer service and smooth end user experience.
  • Serving as an escalation point for desktop support and end user experience issues; working closely with Service desk leads to document support procedures for desktop support.
  • Owning Desktop Engineering and the Desktop Standard applications, tools, etc.
  • Developing innovative solutions and acting as escalation point for analysis and resolution of complex issues.


Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to a minimum of Master's degree level, or equivalent post graduate qualification or equivalent level of experience within a senior Digital Operations role
  • Degree level or equivalent qualification specifically in IT/Informatics
  • Evidence of management development through Continuous Professional Development and/or formal management course


Desirable

  • IT Service Management (ITSM) certifications
  • ITIL 3 / 4 practitioner or higher
  • Relevant certifications in End User Computing Technologies covering application delivery, application management, and persona management; with specific interest in VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS) which cover certifications such as Modern Desktop Administrator Associate (MD-100, MD-101) VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DTM) or Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization (CCA-V)


Knowledge

Essential

  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and experience of managing Digital Operations acquired over a significant period
  • Knowledge of application delivery methods, such as application virtualization, application streaming, or software packaging. Experience with tools like Microsoft App-V, Citrix App Layering, or similar technologies
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in managing large-scale end user compute environments, including desktop and laptop management, operating systems (Windows, macOS), virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), mobile device management (MDM), and user access control.

  • Highly developed specialist knowledge and experience of managing Digital Operations acquired over a significant period

  • In-depth experience in end user compute technologies and solutions. This includes proficiency in managing and supporting desktops, laptops, mobile devices, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), operating systems (such as Windows, macOS, and Linux), application deployment, patch management, and user access control.
  • Experience of managing a variety of stakeholders with conflicting agendas
  • Significant experience of developing and implementing technology processes and procedures and delivering transformational change in Digital Operations
