This post is for an Independent Contractor to work within the Treetops Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) service which is provided by Solent NHS Trust. The service provides forensic, medical and aftercare services to survivors of rape/sexual assault who either self-refer or are referred via the police or other agencies. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic doctor to join the team of Sexual Offence Examiners. You will carry out Forensic Medical Examinations (FME) on victims of sexual assault and/or rape, some of whom may be traumatised.
The post holder must be GMC registered (full) and have a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in a relevant specialism (such as Obs and Gynae, GUM, SH or GP) which must include gynaecological examination, incl. speculum. The post holder will be required, following appropriate training, to undertake examinations of adults and children where acute sexual assault is suspected which includes the provision of emergency contraception, prophylaxis, and management of sexually transmitted infections. This role requires the ability to work with vulnerable people in a caring and compassionate way.
Remuneration for this role will be �225 (day/shift), �300 (nights and weekends), �450 (BH), and �100 p/case. Shifts are 12 hrs.
Main duties of the job
The post holder must be able to practice as an autonomous practitioner exercising independent and objective clinical judgement within professional guidelines and code of conduct.
The major responsibility of the post-holder will be to carry out Forensic Medical Examinations (FME) on victims of sexual assault, some of whom may be very traumatised. Forensic examinations must be carried out in a manner, which minimises further distress.
The post-holder will be trained in forensic medical examination and will contribute to the daytime and out-of-hours rota of the Treetops SARC.
The post holder will be required, following appropriate training, to undertake examinations of adults where acute sexual assault is suspected.
The post holder will be required, following appropriate training, to undertake joint paediatric examination of children where acute sexual assault is suspected. The forensic medical examination of children (< 13) will be under the supervision of a paediatrician.
The examination of complainants of sexual assault and rape includes the provision of emergency contraception and screening, prophylaxis, and management of sexually transmitted infections. Training in this area will be provided, where necessary.

This role requires the ability to work with vulnerable, frail people, who may be distressed or experiencing pain, in a caring and compassionate way.
A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will therefore be required to exclude any individual with a history of criminal behaviour, which could be considered unacceptable. In addition to a DBS check Hampshire Police vetting for Non Police Personnel (NPPV2) will be required.

*The post holder must always remain impartial, independent and without bias.
*The post holder must maintain confidentiality where required, adhering to data protection regulations, and always maintaining Caldicott Guidelines.
*All examinations must be carried out in adherence to all SARC and Solent NHS procedures and protocols and contribute to updating them as and when necessary, through a consultative process.
*The examinations will usually be undertaken at the SARC, but may, in an emergency, be conducted elsewhere.
*All Police Referral and Non-Police Referral calls should be attended without delay.
*The post holder must submit statements within 10 days of the request.
*The post holder must be available for court attendance when requested as a professional witness.
