Job summary

This is a key leadership role within the Health Board and will support the Director of Corporate Governance to take forward the ongoing development of a governance framework for the organisation and ensure that it meets the standards of good governance set for the NHS in Wales.

The postholder will help sustain the standards of good governance by supporting the Director of Corporate Governance to take forward the ongoing development of the Health Board's risk and assurance arrangements and will play a key role in protecting and enhancing the reputation of the Health Board and NHS Wales.

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for developing, managing and co-ordinating the Health Board's approach to corporate risk management across the organisation in line with the Health Board's agreed Risk Management Strategy and Policy and associated Risk Appetite Statement.

To lead the design, development and implementation of an integrated Health Board Assurance Framework and Risk Management Strategy and Policy linked to the Performance Management Framework and takes account of organisational objectives, key risks, external scrutiny and regulatory requirements etc. Also ensuring that these remain up to date, in line with good practice and current legislation.

To lead the reporting of the Corporate Risk Register and Committee Risk Registers to Board, Executive Team and Committees; ensuring regular updating, review, timely identification, and reporting on the management and mitigation of risk. This will include analysing and providing analysis and interpretation on complex information contained in the risk management system and providing advice and making judgements on the assessment of the adequacy of the Health Board's risk management system in order to achieve a collaborative approach for risk processes across the complex service and organisational structure for risk management within the Health Board.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level of qualification or demonstrable equivalent level of experience.


Desirable

  • Professional qualification relating to governance e.g. ICSA - Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, a recognised risk management qualification, or membership of a relevant professional body e.g. IHM


Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience working at senior manager level.


Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a senior governance role either in the NHS or in the public sector.

  • Ability to lead and working within a team as well as on own initiative


Aptitude and Abilities

  • Ability to deal with stressful and emotional situations on a regular basis
