Job summary
The Network of Mortuaries at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire are looking for several posts at different bands to join our team handling over 4,000 patients per year across the network. Our department of 10 staff work across the sites of UHCW, South Warwick and Rugby St Cross Hospitals. This post is for a deputy manager of the Mortuary working with the Network manager and 2 Senior APTs You will be required to have an understanding of current mortuary practice and have knowledge of routine hospital post mortems, high risk cases, Coroner's cases, forensic work and paediatrics, including the documentation and legislation associated with death and organ retention. Previous experience of dealing with the public and being sensitive to cultural needs and dealing with the bereaved is required.
At UHCW we follow national, departmental and trust standards and protocols including the HTA codes of practice and adhere to UKAS, CQC, RCPath guidelines. We prepare for our HTA and UKAS inspections by maintaining high standards of quality by conducting audits, formulating risk assessments/SOPs and investigating incidents in which you will be required to co-ordinate the team.
We have several trainees and experience of the L3 Diploma APT and expectations of candidates is required by you to support the growth of our team. This role is involved in training junior APT's and support staff, and we encourage you to develop your own skills.
Main duties of the job
The role will include mass fatalities planning and training for our colleagues.
We expect the candidate to be computer literate as the role involves the use of Microsoft packages.
A full driving license with access to own transport is essential, we operate over 3 sites- University Hospital Coventry, South Warwickshire Foundation rust and Rugby St Cross Hospital and you are expected to help support all sites.
You will be required to have good communication and keyboard skills, and the ability to work under pressure.

Job responsibilities
The post holder will be responsible for the smooth day-to day running of the mortuary service and will work under their own initiative as required.
The post holder will deputise for the mortuary manager
To undertake multi-site working as necessary and supervise in the managers absence with the rest of the team.
To assist in the training and development of trainee APTs, Pathologists and other professional staff as required.
To participate in the on call service for the forensic services (including out of hours) and be available whenever possible for any hospital enquiries.
To arrange and prepare viewings/Ids in the viewing room.
To accompany families to the viewing room as needed.
To liaise with next of kin in a professional, sympathetic but practical manner.
To arrange official identifications on behalf of Her Majesties Coroner and when necessary act as Identifying Officer.
To follow the guidelines set out by the HTA
To act as person designate and support the Designated individual
To ensure secure postage of any specimens leaving the department, preparing specimens for transport appropriately.
To keep stock replenished and assist with the ordering of stock and supplies as instructed by the manager.
To liaise with the Coroners office, patient affairs
