Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic associate specialist doctor who shares our passion to deliver excellent stroke care for our Somerset population.
This post is for a Special Grade doctor in Stroke within the Neighbourhood Directorate of Somerset Foundation NHS Trust and will be based at based at South Petherton Community Hospital Mary Robertson Ward stroke recovery unit. The stroke pathway span across the Acute Medicine Directorate (that also includes acute Stroke and Neurology, Cardiology, Respiratory, Endocrinology and Diabetes, Acute Medicine and Emergency Medicine) and the Neighbourhood Directorate (That also include Care of the Elderly, Mental health community rehabilitation). The post holder will be allocated a consultant stroke physician as the clinical supervisor and professionally accountable to the Clinical Director / Associate Medical Director

Main duties of the job
- To provide, to a high standard, the full range of specialist, treatment and care to patients requiring stroke services.
- To work with stroke colleagues to provide physician cover for the stroke rehabilitation units, and stroke follow-up clinics
- You are also responsible with day-to-day care for the non-stroke patients (medically fit / end of life patients) in the unit with support from relevant specialist teams such as palliative care.
- You are not required to provide emergency cover. We may in exceptional circumstances ask you to cover across the other community stroke rehabilitation unit at Williton.
- To provide, with consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the specialty to the hospitals so designated with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
- Except in emergencies or where otherwise agreed with your manager, you are responsible for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities and undertaking the Programmed Activities set out in your Job Plan, as reviewed from time to time.
