Job summary

We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic radiographers for a fixed term maternity leave diagnostic rotational radiographer posts (band 7) for our Cavendish Square site in Central London. The successful candidate would hold a post graduate certificate in Mammography.

Key skills required:
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Mammography.
  • Core skills are required in mammography; training will be provided in other modalities where the candidate does not have the required skills.
  • Previous cannulation experience would be desirable.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate post graduate experience sufficient for the role

The successful candidate should be a highly motivated radiographer with good communication skills, who is keen to contribute positively to the imaging service at Cavendish Square.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a commitment to professional development and show a keen interest in the future of their profession and the Diagnostic Imaging services. They will be expected to support both the service and its staff in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging. In return the successful applicant will be offered a high standard of support towards their career pathway.

The successful candidate would hold a post graduate certificate in Mammography, and rotate to CT and/or MRI where appropriate.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach as the department will operate between 8am to 8 pm Monday to Friday and weekends 9-5pm , depending on the modality rota .

The post holder will work as part of senior team liaising with Radiologists and Clinicians in charge of a patient. They will work as part of the multi-disciplinary team liaising with clinical nurse specialists, staff at other Radiology Sites and other departmental staff. They will also liaise with internal and external agencies.

It is essential that the post holder will have significant post graduate experience in Mammography; MRI and CT experience would be desirable. This post requires good analytical, organisational, communication and computer skills. The key working relationships will be with other radiographers, superintendents on all Radiology sites, radiology clerical and admin staff, clinical scientists, consultant radiologists and clinical referrers.

  • To perform clinical MRI scans to produce diagnostic information appropriately as required by current protocols.
  • To maintain the highest standard of practical and theoretical knowledge to ensure a standard of excellence in MRI techniques, so that protocols may be modified in an appropriate manner in view of clinical indications, imaging findings or patient condition and problems in image quality are recognized and acted upon.
  • To be aware of COSHH and Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure their guidelines are followed. To be fully aware of the potential hazards of working in an area of strong magnetic field and to be familiar with the safety guidelines issued by the Medical Devices Agency 2002.
  • To be fully aware of the potential bio-effects of MRI and to ensure that the scanner is operated within safe limits at all times. To act at all times with consideration for the safety and welfare of patients.
  • To ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care.
  • To perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017.
  • To follow the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines, local rules and the departmental standard operating procedures.
  • To comply with accurate patient identification procedures
  • To ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner.
  • To give advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations.


Person Specification

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • State registration
  • DCR/BSc in Radiography
  • Cannulation certificate or Completed workbook
  • Significant recent post graduate experience in cross sectional imaging and/or mammography if relevant


Desirable

  • Mammography Certificate
  • Post Graduate certificate


Experience

  • Evidence of good organisation and communication
  • Evidence of leadership and team building


Desirable

  • Experience in supervision of diagnostic radiographer staff in modalities
