As a result of service transformation an exciting opportunity has arisen in Manchester's School Health Service.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate SCPHN who is ready to further develop their career, by becoming a School Nurse Team Leader. This is a rotational post but initially and for a period of 2 years, you will lead the Healthy Child Programme [South] Team. You can help us to shape and develop our forward thinking School Health Service in Manchester.

You will:

Be a Qualified Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (School Nurse)

Be a Registered Nurse/RSCN.

Be an innovative and proactive practitioner

Have considerable School Nursing experience

Have Leadership/management experience

Main duties of the job

Working with a citywide overview, this Team Lead post is responsible for the day-to-day clinical and operational leadership of at least one of the six child focused functions, namely Immunisation Screening Safeguarding the Healthy Child Programme Healthy Weight and the Healthy Schools Programme.

This post will be subject to review and is rotational to provide the opportunity for professional development and support service delivery.

This Team Lead role will also work together with the Team Leads of the other Functions, with the Heads of Service and the Lead Manager to form the School Health Services Management Team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level Registered Nurse Adult/Child
  • BSc (Hons) SCPHN [SN]
  • Mentorship qualification/998 or equivalent


Desirable

  • V100/V150 qualification and registered with NMC
  • Management/leadership qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Substantial school nursing experience at Band 6 or above
  • Evidence of leading change in practice
  • Experience of effective team leadership
  • Experience of staff development
  • Evidence of managing a team of staff for a substantial period


Skills/Ability

Essential

  • Good communication skills
  • Understanding of research/evidence based practice
  • Good organisation skills
  • Problem solving ability
  • Appraisal and supervision skills
  • Evidence of involvement with safeguarding issues
  • IT literate e.g. word processing and email and internet use.
  • Experience of managing staff performance


Knowledge

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of health and social care policy relating to children's services to include safeguarding
  • Detailed knowledge of local and national policies relating to the school nursing service
  • Detailed knowledge of local and national strategies relating to NCMP and School Entry Screening
  • Detailed knowledge of local and national strategies relating to the school aged Immunisation Programme
  • Detailed knowledge of local and national policies and strategy related to weight management in children
  • Maintain an up to date knowledge and skills base which reflects evidence based practice.
  • Understanding of need for confidentiality
