Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Gissing Head & Neck Ward team which covers a range of specialties including Plastic Surgery, Ear Nose and Throat, Ophthalmology, Maxillofacial, General Surgery, Breast and Dermatology.

As Deputy Sister you will support and work as part of the Ward team, providing professional leadership and management within the work environment. The post holder will be accountable and responsible for the standards of care provided within Gissing H&N Ward and for leading, supporting and implementing innovative practice.

The post holder will provide direct patient care, demonstrating specialist knowledge and act as a resource and role model for the clinical team.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high-quality patient care, by providing professional, clinical, and managerial leadership.

To take charge of the Ward/Department in the absence of the Ward/Departmental Sister/Charge Nurse and provide support and guidance to all staff.

You will also Provide specialist care to our unique case load of patients including Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy care, as well as the post operative care of free flaps.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse on the appropriate part of the NMC register.
  • To have completed the mentorship preparation programme or equivalent if applicable to clinical area


Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience at Band 5 level, relevant to the speciality.
  • Competency in advanced clinical skills including Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy care.
  • Significant experience at Band 5 level, of which some is to be in a position relevant to the specialty


Skills
