An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and exceptional senior nurse to join the corporate nursing team at the Trust. This exciting post covers an important portfolio of work to strategically lead and deliver the safe and sustainable staffing agenda across the organisation.

We are looking for an individual who will work closely with the Executive Director of Nursing, Deputy Chief Nurses, and Divisional Nurse Directors, and also represent the Trust externally, to provide expert advice and support on safe staffing requirements. This involves supporting the clinical divisions with establishment reviews, actual versus planned, workforce safeguards, and chairing the safe staffing working group. The successful candidate will need to build links with the national team and ensure that the Trust continues to provide a safe working environment for nurses and midwives to deliver the highest levels of care. Experience or interest in this area is essential.

In addition to leading on safe staffing, the post holder will be responsible for overseeing NMC regulation including revalidation. Experience in dealing with complex issues related to NMC referrals will be an advantage.

We are looking for an individual with great communication skills, a professional role model, and good organisational skills, the ability to work at pace and meet deadlines and use and understand relevant IT systems.

Main duties of the job

  • To lead on safe and sustainable nursing and midwifery strategy, including coordination of data collection and analysis using the Safer Nursing Care Tool.
  • To provide expert advice on assessment of acuity and dependency and support training in this area.
  • To support clinical divisions to understand the SNCT dataset, and guide them through the annual establishment review process, and the mid-year establishment reviews.
  • To work alongside the Deputy Chief Nurse to ensure that safe and sustainable staffing policies, procedures, and reporting are in place and that recommendations from the Carter review and NHSEI workforce safeguards and NQB guidance are implemented to ensure greater efficiency in workforce planning.
  • To coordinate reporting Actual versus Planned workforce data and critically analyse these data and identify trends and themes.
  • To lead and implement workforce development initiatives for nursing and midwifery, and actively engage with the strategic supply of nursing workforce work within the organization.
  • To provide professional leadership for NMC referrals, revalidation, and other regulatory and professional activities, including providing expert advice to colleagues within the Trust.
  • To take managerial responsibility for all communication with the NMC regarding referrals and fitness to practice enquires, managing the database and ensuring all investigations are managed in a timely manner.
