An exciting opportunity to join our expanding fertility team has become available for a Band 5 staff nurse to join our team.

You will be required to work as part of a team delivering a high quality standard of care within the Hewitt Fertility Centre - based in Knutsford Cheshire.

You must have a compassionate approach to your patient care, in order to support patients and partners through their fertility journey from booking in treatment to assisting in theatres. In addition you must be willing to undertake the role of a link nurse for various roles within the ward/ department as and when required.

Must hold a full UK NMC PIN number

Main duties of the job

As part of the nursing team, you will gain experience by assisting in egg collections, recovery of patients pre and post sedation care. There are a variety of clinics including one stop infertility, and NHA and self funded IVF appointments, you will be expected to assist the consultants for patient treatment planning and investigation booking. In addition, you will be teaching patients how to perform injections and explaining treatment cycles/pathways and explaining the medications involved.

Assisting the specialist nurses at ultrasound appointments and providing patients with information and next steps.Triaging patients and providing help, guidance and advice via the telephone and also face to face.

It would be advantagous but not essential to have an understanding of fertility treatments and care pathways, and of the regulatory body Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. Actively participate in unit audits and the development of the unit and service.

Job responsibilities

Personally give care to individuals, under the guidance of the team leader, based on agreed Policies, Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures, adhering to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority Code of Practice as well as NMC code of practice.

Assist with the clinical management of the department, maintaining high standards of nursing practice and promoting the philosophy of patient centred care. Ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times.

Manage time and resources efficiently, achieving good communication is essential.

Use every reasonable opportunity to maintain and develop your knowledge and competence of Fertility nursing.

Give support and guidance to untrained staff working in the ward / department.

Provide care for pre and post operative patients having oocyte collections or embryo transfers under sedation.

Participate and contribute to the setting and auditing of research based practice to develop new Guidelines and Policies as necessary.

Maintain accurate and legible records ensuring patient care is a current reflection of treatment and advice.

Participate in the development of good working relationships within the team and ward/department area.

When undertaking the role of a link nurse ensure all meetings are attended and actions given are implemented within your remit.

When required, and as part of self development, take charge of the ward / department

Be responsible for maintaining NMC registration and conforming to all relevant NMC Codes of Practice and Advisory Papers.

The post holder maybe required to work within any of the satellite or transport centres as required, therefore flexibility is essential as travel may be required.
