Job summary

East London NHS Foundation Trust Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provides specialist assessment and therapeutic services for children, young people and their families with complex, severe or persistent emotional, behavioural or developmental problems. The services operate primarily at tiers three and four of the four-tiered CAMHS model.

The CAMHS inpatient service is based at Newham. The inpatient service is made up of Acute, Intensive care (PICU) and a Day Service. PICU, acute and Day Service are located in the Coborn Centre for Adolescent Mental Health.

If so, we would like you to join our mental health pharmacy team as the specialist CAMHS pharmacist.

The post holder is required to provide a comprehensive medicines management service to CAMHS patients/ families and the multidisciplinary treatment teams responsible for their care. The post holder will be responsible for further developing CAMHS inpatient pharmacy services. S/he will provide input to policy and procedures affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at both local and Trust wide levels under the direction of the Chief Pharmacist. There will be responsibilities to liaise with Mile End dispensary and Newham Centre for Mental Health pharmacy staff to support an effective dispensing and supply service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to provide a comprehensive medicines management service to CAMHS patients/ families and the multidisciplinary treatment teams responsible for their care. The post holder will work closely with CAMHS pharmacy technician to provide advice on medicines management issues and contribute towards planning of Trust-wide pharmacy services to CAMHS.

You will also work closely with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of a safe and effective service to mental health patients.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential

  • oMasters Degree in Pharmacy (or equivalent).
  • oMember of the General Pharmaceutical Council.


Experience

Essential

  • oPost registration experience relevant to hospital pharmacy
  • oDemonstrate the ability to appropriately recommend, substantiate and communicate therapeutic options in mental health patients.
  • oPrevious experience in service development.
  • oPrevious evaluated experience of line management.
  • oTo have undertaken clinical audit
  • oTraining and education


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • oTo have sound pharmaceutical knowledge relating to mental health.
  • oTo have specialist pharmaceutical knowledge relating to medicines used in children and adolescents.
  • oThe ability to identify and prioritise clinical work load
  • oTo communicate with medical, nursing and pharmacy staff in clear precise and appropriate manner.
  • oTo have an awareness of national and local priorities.
  • oTo have the ability to identify and manage risks.
  • oEnhances the quality of patient care within the CAMHS directorate.
