The post holder will undertake clinical duties within the Department of Urology. The individual will work closely with consultant trainers in Female and Functional Urology (Professor C Harding, Miss Lavin, Mr Hasan and Mr A Thorpe) and take part in the emergency on-call shift rota at a reduced intensity. The timetable will conform to the Specialist Advisory Committee Modular curriculum in Female, Reconstructive and Neuro-urology. There will also be opportunity to undertake some training in the Urogynaecology department. The post holder will be expected to undertake clinical research with the aim of presenting and publishing their work. There is also ample opportunity to take part in teaching and audits and develop a full portfolio in preparation for Consultant job application.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The post holder will be an active member of the Urology team and will work as a senior specialist registrar on the Female and Functional Urology team. There will be opportunity for cross-speciality working with Urogynaecology.

The post is both New Deal and EWTD compliant.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Primary Medical Qualification
  • Full MRCS
  • Full GMC registration or eligibility to obtain this within 3 months (or within 6 months for non-EEA applicants)


Desirable

  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent qualification
  • Intercalated BSc or equivalent
  • Keen to develop research skills
  • Hold CCT


Clinical Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Satisfactory completion of training to a minimum of ST6 standard or equivalent (Urology national curriculum)
  • Must have previous experience in female and functional urology from prior training rotations
  • Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
  • Evidence of self-reflective practice
  • Good history & examination skills
  • Able to formulate a working diagnosis
  • Able to order appropriate investigations
  • Image interpretation relevant to practice
  • Knows when to appropriately seek assistance from a senior colleague


Desirable

  • Broad range of experience in urology and surgery in general
  • Desire to pursue a career in Female and Functional Urology


Maintaining Clinical Competence

  • Written evidence of satisfactory training to date e.g. workplace assessments


Teaching

Essential

  • Able to contribute to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting


Desirable

  • Experience in teaching undergraduate medical students & junior doctors/nurses
  • Contribution to Departmental training sessions


Clinical Governance, Audit and Research

  • Demonstrates understanding of the importance of audit and research
