Job summary

The Health Board wishes to appoint 2 x fixed term Clinical Fellows to join the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) which is the largest Health Board in Wales, until 6TH August 2024

These posts will be located at Bangor Hospital.

Bangor Hospital is sandwiched between Snowdonia National Park and the stunning coastline of Anglesey. The area is well known for its beautiful beaches, lakes and mountains and is becoming popular for those seeking an outdoor lifestyle. If you like outdoor pursuits, hill-walking, rock-climbing, kite-surfing and sailing, then all of these are on your doorstep, yet we are only a one hour's drive to Chester / M6 and three hours to London by direct train.

Main duties of the job

This 12 month post (extendable if required) will be available from the 2nd August and is based in a well-supported environment within a friendly rural DGH, covering a rural area the size of Greater London. There are unique challenges in delivering high quality health care to this diverse population and we are seeking a highly motivated team player to come and join a dynamic team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

The successful applicant will have access to twice weekly endoscopy lists, outpatient clinics and will also have weekly protected time for administrative and professional activities. This role is ideal for those requiring experience prior to applying for specialist training.

These posts are equivalent to Specialty Trainee level and contribute to the GIM on-call rota, currently a 1 in 5.5 weekends, attracting a 1b banding ( 40% ) pay supplement.

To practice medicine in the UK you need to hold both GMC registration and a licence to practise.

These posts do not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and are not recognised for training but appropriate educational supervision will be provided.

In addition to ward cover, successful applicants will have access to outpatient clinics and endoscopy lists.

Person Specification

Training and Experience

Essential

  • MCRP part 1
  • The applicant must have achieved a primary medical qualification as recognised by the General Medical Council (GMC).
  • Minimum 2 years experience at SHO grade in General Medicine.


Desirable

  • Evidence of audits / presentations / publications in area of interest.


Knowledge/Qualification

Essential

  • o Full registration with the GMC
  • o MRCS or qualification at equivalent level
  • o Meet UK/EEA immigration regulations or apply for a work permit.


Basic Skills & Abilities

Essential

  • o General medical treatments and skills appropriate to the degree
  • o Supervision and learning of junior doctors and nursing staff
  • o Know when to ask for help
  • o Ability to provide information.
  • o Be able to write relevant, legible clinical notes.
  • o Effective and safe written and oral communication skills.
  • o Willingness to participate in patient management.
  • o Ability to treat difficult interviews with patients or relationships with wisdom and sensitivity
  • o Basic IT skills


Desirable

  • o Qualified to provide General Internal Medicine On-Call service at Middle Degree level
  • o Clinical experience outside the specialty
  • o Additional experience in Endoscopy procedures
  • Advanced IT skills including information on website authorisation.
