Job summary

Job Title: Junior Clinical Fellow (CT/ FY2 equivalent) in Trauma & Orthopaedics

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join our growing team within the Trauma & Orthopaedic service. This post offers the opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and learn a range of skills in a large and busy teaching hospital.

This is a Trust (CT/FY2 level equivalent) position appointed for service commitments; it is not recognised for training by the Post Graduate Dean but will be supported for research and applications for specialist training. The principal role will be to support the operative pathway for surgical patients with exposure to operating lists.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of inpatients on the Orthopaedic wards, admissions and to assist in operating theatres where appropriate supervision will be available. The post-holder will undertake the routine admission of patients before surgery, be it on a non-elective, day case basis or planned admission and will be responsible for explaining and obtaining consent for surgical procedures.

The Royal Oldham Hospital, also referred to as the Oldham Care Organisation, provides a full range of hospital services including; emergency care, critical care, a comprehensive range of elective and non-elective general medicine (including elderly care) and surgery, JAG accredited gastroenterology services, a neonatal unit, children and young people's services, maternity services and a range of outpatient and diagnostic imaging services. Paediatric ENT and Urology is provided at the Royal Oldham Hospital. Oldham is designated a high acuity hospital for Healthier Together and a Trauma unit in Greater Manchester

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council and a valid Licence to Practise with the General Medical Council.
  • Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies or evidence of equivalent training and experience.


Desirable

  • Completion of post-graduate qualification (e.g. MRCS part 1).


Experience and clinical skills

Essential

  • Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of F2 within 2 years of intended start date.
  • Proven ability to take clinical history and undertake examination
  • Knowledge of the workings of the NHS.


Academic, Research Skills, Teaching, Management

Essential

  • Use of evidence based practice.
  • Participation in clinical audit.
