Job summary

A multi skilled maintenance specialist, with hands on approach to a full range of maintenance tasks across Kings Hospital Estates. To lead the shift team in maintaining the equipment, fabric and utility services of the Trusts Properties. Providing a Patient focussed delivery of all tasks ensuring that Kings provides high quality service

Liaises With: Team Leader, Maintenance Staff, Heads of Departments, Ward Managers, Patients and Clinical Technicians, Doctors, Nurses.

The post holder has an important responsibility for and contribution to make to infection control and must be familiar with the infection control and hygiene requirements of this role.

These requirements are set out in the National Code of Practice on Infection Control and in local policies and procedures which will be made clear during your induction and subsequent refresher training. These standards must be strictly complied with at all times

Main duties of the job

The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and well being and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.

To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.

To observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.

To be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1 To deliver a patient focused maintenance service across the Kings Estate.

2 Delivering proactive, predictive, planned and reactive maintenance. Planning, issuing and closing down works using the FM system for the team.

3 Take an active role in the delivery and implementation of further FM tools, such as PDA/IPad technology.

4 Taking accountability for meeting key performance indicators for agreed service delivery times. (Priority 1-4).

5 Manage estate emergency situations escalating to senior teams as risk management and contingency procedures both require and demand.

6 To assist all other trades as applicable and as a part of a maintenance team communicate technical issues to other maintenance staff.

7 To assemble, install and commission new works and equipment as required.

8 Maintain and repair the trusts properties and equipment in accordance with Health Technical Memoranda and Health Building Notes.

9 Provide shift handover between day shift night shift.

10 To ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and local operation procedure codes.

11 To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity.

12 To comply with the Authoritys No Smoking and Alcohol Policies.

13 Have a good understanding of computers, and in particular standard Microsoft Office Tools, knowledge and experience with BMS and planned maintenance systems will also be an advantage.

14 Carry out fire alarm isolations and reinstatements as required.

15 Work across an expanding Trust Estate; which may mean carrying out plant and reactive works on remote sites on your own initiative. A high degree of health and safety understanding and awareness is vital.
