Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and self motivated, experienced Orthoptist to join and Lead our small, friendly Orthoptic team.
The department currently consists of 3 Orthoptists, 7 Consultant Ophthalmologists, all with various sub-specialty interests, in addition to 4 Optometrists and Ophthalmic trained nurses.
In addition to paediatric and adult orthoptic clinics, there is an opportunity to be involved in Peripheral clinics, Stroke clinics and Low vision clinics (in conjunction with ECLO).
The department is also very supportive of further extended scope work e.g. pre and post-op cataract assessment, AMD clinics (inc. IVT/injections), glaucoma assessment etc. We have Orthoptists and Optometrist working in a variety or roles and would love to expand further! Experience is any of these areas is desirable but also training and study time will be provided where necessary. The applicant must be willing to commit some of their own time too. Current Orthoptists (and Optometrists) are registered as OPT learners with the RCO.
Role and responsibilities will be dependent on experience.
A Degree (or Diploma) in Orthoptics, and State Registration with the HCPC is essential.
Main duties of the job
Paediatric and adult Orthoptic clinics. Involvement in wider Ophthalmology MDT clinics.
Leading the Orthoptic team and being main point of contact for day-to-day activities and queries.
