Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our Emergency Department at the Homerton. This post is suitable for candidates who have both the right educational qualifications in Advanced Practice and experience of Emergency Care.

The Emergency Department is a progressive and dynamic department, recently rated 'Outstanding' Emergency Department for the second time by the CQC. We serve the multi culturally, diverse population of Hackney and are based in the East End of London. Our annual Emergency attendance is in excess of 120,000 new patients.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:
  • You will be expected to deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within the field of emergency care by using independent judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care and management of emergency department patients.
  • You will work alongside and support the education and development of both nursing and medical colleagues.
  • You will be required to use specialist knowledge and skills to see patients in the ED ranging from those who are critically ill or injured to those with minor self-limiting pathologies. In addition to making complex diagnosis and management decisions about patients with undifferentiated / undiagnosed problems.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/ First Degree
  • Relevant post registration emergency care course
  • Relevant post registration teaching & assessing course
  • PGDip in advanced practice.
  • ALS, Trauma Course. APLS.
  • Independent Nurse Prescriber
  • IRMER training (Radiology safety programme).
  • Adult and children's safeguarding level 3


Desirable

  • Degree level minor injury course
  • MSc in Advanced Nursing Practice


Skills/ Abilities

Essential

  • Physical assessment and history taking skills/ability to interpret clinical findings and develop an appropriate healthcare plan, independently
  • Involvement in Clinical Audit
  • Ability to critically analyse research and apply to practice setting
  • Evidence of knowledge/understanding of collaborative practice and nurse practitioner role


Experience

Essential

  • Post-registration experience demonstrating experience at senior level in emergency department or Primary Health Care setting Band 7
  • Experience of independently managing injuries and ailments in a Nurse Practitioner role, either in a primary healthcare or emergency department setting
  • Evidence of successful change management
  • Evidence of practice development.

  • Knowledge/understanding of confidentiality issues
