Band 5 Staff Nurse

We are looking for a dynamic full-time band 5 staff nurses with an interest in Haematology/Oncology nursing.

We are a busy but friendly team delivering a variety of intravenous treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive treatments.Specialist training being given to the sucessful candidates.

You will, after training need to be able to prioritise care, deliver treatments and maintain high standards of nursing care whilst responding sensitively to the needs of this client group.

Good communication skills and the ability to work with the wider MDT are essential. Ideally you will have some experience in venepuncture, cannulation, central lines and IV therapy.

Main duties of the job

At least 2 years post registration experience would be desirable and experience in administration of Chemotherapy is desirable but not essential.

You will be required to safely handle and administer Systemic Anti-Cancer therapy after completing relevant training where needed.

Whilst on the unit you will have the opportunity to assist with supplementary medical infusions and monoclonal antibody therapy.

This will be a great opportunity for an experienced staff nurse to gain valuable experience in this chosen speciality.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• RGN (Level 1 NMC)
• Evidence of diploma level / degree level study
• Evidence of continued professional development in relevant subject

Desirable

• ENB 998 or Level 3 Mentorship
• Safe administration of Systemic Anti Cancer treatment

Experience

Essential

• 1 year to 18 months post-registration experience in a care environment
• Knowledge of quality, audit and research
• Ability to manage a clinical case load

Desirable

• Experience of working within a Haematology and oncology environment
• Previous experience of working in a hospital setting

Skills

Essential

• Venepuncture and cannulation skills or working towards
• Ability to carry out a full range of nursing practice
• Knowledge of disease process
• Ability to communicate patient information and education
• Competent in drug calculation and use of infusion equipment

Desirable

• Experience with PICC/ Hickman lines and Portacaths
• Additional skills and knowledge appropriate to speciality
