Job summary

We are looking to recruit a qualified accountantto join the Contract Income Team in a new role as Assistant Finance Manager. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator with experience in a range of accounting areas, proven advanced Excel skills and a working knowledge of databases. Analytical and problem-solving skills are needed, as well as the ability to be organised and methodical whilst taking a strategic view.

This is a key role in the finance team and will work closely with the Head of Contract Income & Costing, Finance Manager (Contract Income) and Senior Commissioning Accountants to provide a robust and reliable service to the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The Contract Income team is responsible for the reporting and billing of the Trusts NHS patient activity income, liaising closely with the clinical divisions, Information and Commissioning & Planning Teams. Externally, the team works with commissioning bodies across the country. This role:
  • Supports the Finance Manager (Contract Income) and Head of Contract Income & Costing in managing the Trust's approach to contract income.
  • Manages and executes the Trust's approach to Devices income reporting.
  • Deputises for the Finance Manager (Contract Income) and Head of Contract Income & Costing in matters concerning Contract Income.
  • Undertakes Project work relating to the Contract Income in support of the Director of Finance and Head of Contract Income & Costing (e.g., the devolvement of Specialised Services to ICBs).

Job responsibilities

The Trust is committed to staff development and this role provides excellent prospects for career progression. Most of this team are currently working flexibly between a home and work base (at either the Trust HQ in central Bristol, or from the Finance Office in Weston General Hospital). Either base would be available for the appointee, with the possibility of some home working (IT equipment and support will be provided). Person Specification

Qualifications, Kowledge and Experience

Essential

  • CCAB or equivalent qualification
  • Knowledge and experience of designing and using advanced spreadsheets
  • Experience of working with a team to achieve deadlines and objectives
  • Awareness of and willingness to work in accordance with the trust values


Desirable

  • Advanced knowledge of contract income with proven experience
  • Knowledge and experience of designing and using databases (ideally SQL)
  • Previous NHS experience

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, in person) with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders
  • Flexible and adaptable approach
