Main duties of the job

Responsible for managerial/professional control of a range of operational services for the department, including Estates Operation, Capital Projects Support, Backlog Maintenance, Grounds & Garden.

Provide a first-class service in collaboration with operational leads to ensure we deliver Patient and staff Estates and Facilities priorities.

Lead the management of the Trust's estate and the improvement of its physical environment, closely linked with the Estates strategy & the delivery of the strategy.

Ensure each service department has clear strategic/operational business objectives consistent with the Trust goals.

Job responsibilities

As a key member of the Estates & Facilities Management team, the Associate Director Estates has managerial, professional and technical responsibility for managing the trust estate on behalf of the Trust

The post holder will provide a single point of contact on day-to-day Estates Management matters. The post holder will be responsible for the operational Management of highly complex buildings and engineering services critical to patient care and the Management of the Trust estate.

The post holder will act as the Trust's expert and adviser in these areas, providing highly specialist and professional estates expertise to Directors, Clinicians, Senior Managers and other staff throughout the Trust.

The post holder will support the Deputy Director and the Director on the estate's strategy and development.

At a corporate level, the post holder will contribute to formulating and delivering strategic and operational objectives whilst ensuring the provision of a comprehensive and efficient service working on behalf of patients, visitors and staff. In addition, the post holder will be expected to embrace the changes in healthcare delivery and to identify and implement innovative solutions that support the Trust's Objectives.

The post holder is required to deputise for senior colleagues within the Estates and Facilities.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services or equivalent work experience
  • Corporate Professional Membership with learned body ( e.g. IHEEM, CIOB, RIBA, IEE, ImechE, CIBSE )
  • Management qualification or working towards
  • PRINCE 2/or equivalent project management experience.
  • Post graduate qualification to masters' level or equivalent qualification or experience


Knowledge

Essential

  • Significant experience of working at a senior level within estates management in a large Acute site.
  • Proven financial management of multiple budgets
  • Working knowledge of complex engineering systems & maintenance procedures
  • Staff management/dealing with complex HR issues
  • Ability to effectively deal with complaints


Experience

Essential

  • Experience staff management and leadership
  • Detailed knowledge of CDM regulations, Estate code, Concode, HBNs & HTMs
  • Experience of challenging CIP.s and proven delivery of these
  • Knowledge of energy & sustainable management processes, including legislation


Skills

Essential

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for Board level communications i.e. report writing and presentations
  • Able to multi-task, work under pressure and meet consistently demanding deadlines
  • Effective professional leadership skills to provide vision and drive for future development of services
  • Ability to develop and build an effective team
