An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Manager in our Trauma And Orthopaedics team based out our Southend Hospital site. You will need to be a natural leader that is organised, enthusiastic and has a passion for patient safety and care.
  • To work as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of a high standard of care to the patients.
  • To act as team leader taking charge of the ward, allocating and supporting staff.
  • To participate in all relevant aspects of the Governance process.
  • The post holder will adhere to the NMC code of Professional Conduct at all times and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • To act as a positive role model at all times.


Main duties of the job

  • Act at all times in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
  • To maintain a professional demeanour at all times in line with the Trust Policy for Uniform and the NMC Code
  • To maintain professional and personal development in accordance with PREPP requirements through the annual appraisal, personal development plans, portfolio development and reflective writing skills.
  • Ensure all nursing records are completed in accordance with Southend Hospital policies and NMC standards for records and record keeping.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Make a thorough assessment of the patients needs and document these in accordance with Trust policies.
  • Formulate a plan of care based on the identified needs of the patient, taking into account current evidence based research findings.
  • Ensure that all the care planned is delivered to the patient at the highest possible standard.
  • Evaluate and document nursing actions and alter the care plan in accordance with the changing needs of the patient.
  • To act as an advocate for the patient at all times and promote patient health through education
  • Pro-actively communicate and liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team on matters affecting patient care.
  • Ensure the rights of patients are respected at all times and assist in the provision of information, enabling informed decisions to be made about their care.
  • To commence discharge planning on admission co-ordinate through to the safe discharge of patients from hospital, as Trust Discharge Policy.
  • In conjunction with the Ward Manager, identify and plan appropriate interventions that contribute to high staff morale and good working relationships with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Positively contribute to the process of change within the ward.
  • Contribute to the reduction of healthcare acquired infection by ensuring a high standard of infection control practice in the light of research, current best evidence and legislation.
  • Adhere to the Trust Policies and Guidelines for the Safe Handling, Administration, Storage and Custody of Medicinal Products.
