A new opportunity has become available for an experienced technician with an interest in Aseptic Services. The successful applicant will become part of a busy team working within a licensed aseptic unit offering a high quality service to both internal and external customers.

As the demand for cancer care continues to grow, our vision continues to be to deliver excellence in pharmacy services to patients at St Lukes Cancer Centre within Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust has approved significant investment to the tune of 10 pharmacy posts for cancer services. Our intention is to ensure there is capacity available to respond effectively to patient need, with access to the latest evidence-based treatment, clinical trial medicines, and innovative patient pathways.

Main duties of the job

The suitable applicant should be highly motivated and have excellent attention to detail. They should be organised and able to prioritise work effectively showing excellent interpersonal and communication skills. There is some involvement with clinical trials and gene therapy within this role and therefore great enthusiasm towards new products with the ability to inspire others is essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day to day co-ordination of staff and workload within the Aseptic Suite
  • Act as a validated in process checker for aseptically prepared products
  • Manufacture of aseptically prepared products
  • Responsible for the direct line management of pharmacy assistants

Co-ordinate and prioritise the workload of the department on a day-to-day basis including the allocation of the work of up to twenty pharmacy staff.
  • Supervise the work of up to ten pharmacy technicians and assistants, including practical training where appropriate.
  • Be responsible for in process checks on an annual workload of up to 50,000 items.
  • Partake in the dispensing, documenting and manufacture of drugs for up to 40 ongoing clinical trials.

The post holder is guided by departmental procedures, good manufacturing practice and hospital policy

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services plus underpinning knowledge from BTEC in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience gained from significant demonstrable in sterile manufacturing
  • Leeds University 4 days course in Aseptic Preparation and Dispensing of Medicines (or willingness to undertake)
  • Accredited A1 NVQ assessor ( or willingness to undertake)


Experience

Essential

  • Significant relevant experience within aseptic services
  • Previous experience of working at supervisory level
