Job summary

This Service Manager position is a newly established post. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to make it their own, liaising closely with the Operations Manager. Close line management will help deliver a myriad of learning opportunities with a strong focus on professional development.

Project work combined with day-to-day operational management will constitute the majority of the workload and will require creative prioritisation and a strong organisational skillset. Problem solving, determination, and resilience will all need to be utilised to best manage unique and ambiguous tasks in the workflow.

Liver Services at UHB are a national tertiary centre responsible for over 30% of the UK's liver transplants. As a result, the department expects partnership of consistently high performance with innovation. The department operates across secondary and tertiary care, medicine and surgery to holistically address the complex needs of our patients. Main duties of the job

Work with the Operations Manager and General Manager to provide business and managerial support in order that the activity, quality and financial objectives of Liver Services are successfully delivered. In particular, the Service Manager will focus on post-COVID performance recovery; ensuring patients receive treatment within NHS-agreed waiting times through daily management of all KPIs and national standards; 18Wks RTT, Cancer 2WW, 28 FDS, 62Day and the Tertiary referrals.

Manage and perform audits and co-ordinate projects that require excellent planning and organisational skills, requiring use of own judgement to prioritise workload effectively.

Deputise for the Operations Manager when required.

Line manage designated team leaders and clerical staff, overseeing recruitment, training, and absence management.

Work with initiative and minimal guidance. Notwithstanding regular 1:1s for professional development.

  • Good general level of education including core subjects at GCSE grades A -- C or equivalent


Experience

  • Previous experience of working to NHS key performance and national standards
  • Experience in handling confidential information
  • Experience with dealing with patients, relatives and the general public
  • Previous line management experience of staff
  • Working Knowledge of waiting list systems
  • Knowledge of NHS and aims of its structure
  • Knowledge of medical staffing issues
  • Knowledge of all the PAS systems
